Supported Applications

The Omega BTH series comprises high-temperature bayonet-style thermocouple probes designed for rapid insertion and removal in process monitoring. These solid probe sensors feature a spring-loaded mechanism that allows them to be inserted into drilled holes or pipe clamp adaptors without requiring threaded connections at the measurement point.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series meets or exceeds Special Limits of Error (SLE) and EN 60584-2: Tolerance Class 1. The probe stem is constructed with a solid 304 Stainless Steel sheath having a diameter of 4.7 mm (3/16"). Standard configurations include a flexible stainless steel armor cable measuring 7.0 mm (0.275") in diameter and 1.5 m / 5' in length, terminated with glass braid insulated 20 gage solid thermocouple lead wire.

Configuration Options

The BTH series offers extensive configuration options for sensor type, geometry, termination style, and mounting accessories to accommodate various installation depths and pipe sizes.

  • Sensor Types: Available in Type J, K, T, and E thermocouples.
  • Probe Geometry: Offered as straight (BTH-000) or 90° bend (BTH-090).
  • Junction Configuration: Standard grounded junction; ungrounded versions are available by adding the '-UNGROUND' suffix.
  • Cold End Termination: Style 2 termination with a yellow connector. Stranded wire is available as an option for the thermocouple lead wire.
  • Mounting Adaptors:
    • Pipe Clamp Adaptors (BTC-1 to BTC-6) support pipe diameters ranging from ½ inch to 5¼ inches.
    • Bayonet Adaptors (BTA-1 to BTA-6) provide threaded connections including ⅛-27 NPT and ⅜-24 threads with lengths of ⅜", 1⅜", or 2¼".
  • Dimensions: Probe length 'A' is selected based on hole depth 'C'. Standard dimensions range from 41.3 mm (1⅝") to 194 mm (7⅝"). For deeper holes, the probe dimension increases by ¼ inch for each additional ½" of hole depth.

Key Product Differences

The series distinguishes between straight and angled configurations via model prefixes: BTH-000 denotes a straight probe, while BTH-090 indicates a 90° bend. Model numbers follow the format BTH-[STYLE]-[TYPE]-[LENGTH]-60-[TERMINATION], where '60' represents the standard cable length in inches (5 feet). Variants with dual outputs are identified by the '-DUAL' suffix, and ungrounded sensors use the '-UNGROUND' or '-UNGROUNDED' suffix. Longer probe lengths beyond the standard table values require changing the dimension code to the desired length.
