Supported Applications
The XW-ED / XW-ED-PRO Long Range Wireless Transmitter by Omega provides a wireless interface for digital probes, digital I/O, and analog process signals. Designed for demanding industrial applications in both indoor and harsh outdoor environments, the series operates on the IEEE 802.15.4 standard at 2.4 GHz with a range of up to 1000 m (3280') outdoors and 100 m (328') indoors without obstruction.
The transmitter supports measurement types including:
- Smart Probes
- Analog process signals: 4-20 mA, mV
- Digital inputs: Frequency, Counter, Up/Down Counter, Pulse Width (Tpw), Pulse Delay (Tpp), Duty Cycle
- Discrete I/O for local control and alarm functions (XW-ED-PRO only)
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series is housed in a rugged, weatherproof polycarbonate enclosure rated NEMA 4 (IP65). Operating conditions vary by power source:
- Base Unit: -20 to 70°C (-4 to 158°F), 90% RH non-condensing
- CR2032 Battery (RTC back-up only): -20 to 60°C (-4 to 140°F), 90% RH
- Alkaline Battery: -18 to 55°C (-0.4 to 131°F), 90% RH non-condensing
Battery life is up to 5 years with a reading frequency of 1 reading per 10 minutes using two C-cell 1.5Vdc alkaline batteries (included). The device features direct USB configuration via SYNC software.
Configuration Options
The series offers configurable dimensions across measurement types, power options, and connectivity:

Short of Expectations
Let's start with distance range, one of the aspects which was priority for me. The most I was able to get was 600 ft (500 ft reliably). It looks like it will resist splashes but not an all-day rain. Make sure you request the pin signal connector for your device. Pros and cons:
Pros: on/off button
easy wiring for independent devices.
When connected within range, it transmits more or less constantly.
Self powers
Cons: Not good for 1000 ft.
$350+ software to record live and scale signal into a meaningful unit.
It can easily fry with a reverse wiring.
Troubleshooting is limited. It works or it doesn't.
Does not loop power a 4-20mA device.
