Supported Applications

The Dwyer Series DX is a wet/wet differential pressure switch designed to make a contact output based on the differential between two pressure sources. The series features low differential pressure set points with high single-pressure limits, making it suitable for most gas and water-based applications where monitoring of compatible gases and liquids is required.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The Series DX operates within a process temperature range of 30 to 140°F (-1 to 60°C) with an ambient humidity limit of 80% (non-condensing). The unit maintains repeatability of ±2% of full range and is rated for continuous single-side pressure up to 1.25 times the full differential pressure range, subject to a maximum pressure rating of 200 psig (13.8 bar).

Adjustable measurement ranges are available in four increments: 2.5 to 10 psi, 10 to 25 psi, 25 to 50 psi, and 50 to 75 psi. The switch action is defined by a fixed deadband that varies with the selected range; for example, the 2.5 to 10 psid (0.17 to 0.69 bar) range lists a 1.5 psid (0.10 bar) deadband at low set points and 2.5 psid (0.17 bar) at high set points.

The device is engineered for mechanical robustness, with specifications stating that the set point repeats after exposure to 2.5 Gs vibration from 5 to 500 Hz or a shock of 15 Gs over a 10 millisecond duration. The enclosure rating is Weatherproof UL type 4X (IP65), intended for indoor and outdoor use.

Configuration Options

The Series DX offers configurable options across construction, wetted materials, process connections, circuit types, ranges, and accessories:

  • Construction: Weatherproof (code W).
  • Wetted Materials: Connection: Brass; Diaphragm: Fluoroelastomer.
  • Process Connections: 1/4" NPT female ports, mounted on a horizontal plane with ±10° orientation tolerance.
  • Circuit Options: SPDT snap switch (code 153).
  • Ranges: Four selectable differential pressure ranges from 2.5 to 75 psid.
  • Options and Accessories: Stainless Steel tag, Preset set point, or a watertight 1/2" conduit plug (model A-590).

The unit features an externally adjustable set point via screw adjustment. Electrical connections are made through a removable terminal block with a 0.871" diameter hole for a 1/2" conduit fitting.

Are there guidelines for pressure tapping points when using the DX Series Differential Pressure Switch on steel water pipes&mdash;such as whether to tap from the top, side, or bottom? Also, is there any recommended distance from pipe bends or elbows?

Hello, There is no specific recommendation when it comes to where to tap the pipe or a distance to keep from bends or elbows. Since these measure pressure, these factors will not have a large effect on the switch's functionality.
