Supported Applications
The Omega TSP Series Screw Plug Immersion Heaters are tubular industrial process heaters designed for insertion into threaded openings in tank walls or through mating full or half couplings. The series is suitable for heating a wide range of media, including clean water, deionized water, demineralized water, weak chemical solutions, oils, tar, caustic soda, detergent, alkaline solutions, molten salts, fluid heat transfer media, high to low viscosity petroleum oils, asphalt, paraffin, degreasing solvents, alcohol, and molten salt.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The TSP Series operates with process temperature limits defined by the sheath material: Copper Sheath up to 177°C (350°F), Steel Sheath up to 399°C (750°F), and Incoloy® Sheath up to 871°C (1600°F). Standard electrical connections support single-phase and three-phase configurations with wiring diagrams provided for series/parallel, delta, and wye setups. Power supply options include 120V-1Ph, 120/240V, 240V-1Ph, 240V-3Ph, 240/480V, and 480V-3Ph.
Standard features include recompressed element bends for insulation resistance, thermowells for optional temperature sensors, corrosion-resistant wiring hardware, and silicone resin element seals. Dual-Voltage heaters are wired for the higher voltage unless otherwise specified. Heaters wired for three-phase should not be changed to single-phase or three-phase delta connection, as this increases wattage and watt density on the elements by three times the original designed wattage.
Configuration Options
The series offers configurable dimensions across screw plug materials (Stainless Steel, Brass, Steel), sheath materials (Copper, Steel, 316 Stainless Steel, Incoloy® 800), and terminal housings. Process connections utilize Screw Plug NPT threads with standard sizes of 1", 1¼", 2", and 2½".
Available options include:
- NEMA 4 Moisture-Proof or NEMA 7 Explosion-Resistant Terminal Housings (standard is NEMA 1 Round Terminal Housing).
- Integral Single or Double Pole Thermostats in various temperature ranges.
- Type J and K Thermocouples or RTD Probes for sensing process temperatures or over-temperature protection.
- Surface treatments: Passivation, Electropolishing, or Bright Annealing for Stainless Steel and Incoloy® Elements.
- Special Sheath Materials and Special Straight Bulkhead or European Thread Fittings.
Terminal housing dimensions vary by type: TYPE 1N (118 mm x 67 mm), TYPE 1T (117 mm x 97 mm), TYPE 6T (140 mm x 114 mm), TYPE 2N (95 mm x 67 mm), TYPE 2T (159 mm x 129 mm), TYPE 3T (200 mm x 164 mm), TYPE 3N (98 mm x 54 mm), TYPE 4N (102 mm x 51 mm), TYPE 4T (137 mm x 120.7 mm), and TYPE 5T (187 mm x 146 mm). Conduit knockouts are provided on the terminal housing: Dual ½" to ¾" for NEMA 1, and 1¼" for NEMA 4/7.
Key Product Differences
The TSP Series includes specific model families distinguished by screw plug and sheath material combinations. The Brass Screw Plug with Copper Sheath elements is available in various immersed lengths ranging from 111 mm (4⅜") to 943 mm (37⅝"), with power ratings up to 18 kW depending on voltage configuration. A separate family features a 316 Stainless Steel Screw Plug and 316 Stainless Steel Sheath, offering immersed lengths from 194 mm (7⅝") to 943 mm (37⅝").
Model numbers follow the format TSP Series - <Voltage/Phase> - <Nominal Pipe Size> - <Number of Elements> - <Immersed Length> - <Power Rating>. For example, TSP01840 represents a 120V-1Ph configuration with 1 NPT, 1 element, 114 mm immersed length, and 0.5 kW power rating.
