Supported Applications
The Dwyer Series DTFO Variable-Area Flowmeter is designed for measuring oil flow rates in industrial systems. As an in-line mounting device, it provides direct indication of liquid volume with durable metal construction suitable for high-pressure environments.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series delivers ±2% FS accuracy when calibrated for liquids (oil) and offers a repeatability of ±1% FS. It operates within a process temperature range of -40 to 200°F (-40 to 93°C). Pressure ratings vary by model configuration: DTFO-1B and DTFO-2B models are rated up to 3000 psig (200 bar), while the larger DTFO-3S models support pressures up to 1500 psig (100 bar).
Installation requires horizontal mounting for maximum accuracy, as factory calibration is performed in this orientation. The device utilizes a magnetic coupling system; therefore, external magnetic materials should be kept at least 3 inches (7.6 cm) away from the unit to prevent interference with readings.
Configuration Options
The Series DTFO encompasses multiple flow ranges and connection sizes tailored for oil service:
- Flow Ranges: Available in increments including 0 to 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 GPM Oil.
- Process Connections: Options include 1/4" NPT (DTFO-1B), 1/2" NPT (DTFO-2B), and 1" NPT (DTFO-3S).
- Housing Materials: Brass bodies are offered for DTFO-1B and DTFO-2B series; Stainless Steel (SS) is used for the DTFO-3S series.
- Metering Cones: Acetal cones are standard on brass models, while PTFE cones are specified for stainless steel models.
The dial face diameter measures 2.5" (63.5 mm). Wetted materials include a 302 SS spring and range spring, Buna seals, and magnets coated with PTFE.
Key Product Differences
Differences within the series are defined by body material, connection size, and maximum flow capacity:
- DTFO-1B Series: Features a brass body with 1/4" NPT connections. Flow ranges extend from 0 to 5 GPM Oil.
- DTFO-2B Series: Utilizes a brass body with 1/2" NPT connections, supporting flow rates up to 10 GPM Oil (e.g., DTFO-2B-8O and higher).
- DTFO-3S Series: Constructed with stainless steel bodies and 1" NPT connections. This configuration supports the highest ranges in the series, from 0 to 10 GPM up to 0 to 30 GPM Oil.
Note that model numbers for oil service are derived by changing water calibration suffixes (W) to oil designations (O), such as DTFO-1B-4O. The series is not field-serviceable; units requiring repair must be returned to the factory.
