Supported Applications
The HHF-SD2 is a combination vane anemometer and thermistor thermometer with a built-in real-time SD card data logger. It measures air velocity and air temperature at the same time through a vane probe, and accepts a Type K thermocouple input for additional surface or immersion temperature measurement. Logged data is written directly to an SD memory card as Excel-compatible (.xls) files.
A backlit LCD, automatic temperature compensation, and multiple selectable velocity units make the HHF-SD2 a strong fit for air conditioning and heating systems, ventilation balancing, duct and grille airflow surveys, and general environmental air-movement testing. An optional RS232/USB interface with software lets logs be transferred to a PC for analysis.
The meter comes complete with a vane probe, a hard carrying case, a 2 GB SD card, and a free 1 m (40") Type K insulated beaded-wire thermocouple with subminiature connector and wire spool caddy. It is not designed for and should not be used in human applications.
Operating Conditions & Performance
Air velocity is measured from 0.4 to 25.0 m/s — equivalent to 1.4 to 90.0 km/h, 0.9 to 55.9 mph, 0.8 to 45.6 knot, or 70 to 4921 ft/min — with an accuracy of ±(2% + 0.2 m/s) and a resolution of 0.1 m/s (1 ft/min). Air temperature is reported at 0.1°C (0.1°F) resolution. The vane probe measures 72 mm dia (2.83").
Data-logging and interface behavior includes:
- Sampling time (Auto): 1 to 3600 seconds, with the display updating at 1 second
- Memory: SD memory card storing Excel-compatible logs
- Interface: RS232 and USB (each with optional cable and software)
- Display: 52 x 38 mm (2.05 x 1.50") LCD with switchable green backlight
The unit runs on 6 "AAA" alkaline or heavy-duty batteries (included) or an optional 9V power adaptor, drawing 15 mA DC without the SD card or backlight and 36 mA with all functions active. It operates from 0 to 50°C (32 to 122°F) at less than 85% RH, weighs 515 g (1.13 lb), and measures 203 L x 76 W x 38 mm D (8 x 3 x 1.50"). The instrument is manufactured to ISO 9001 quality standards.
Configuration Options
Offered as a single model, the HHF-SD2's versatility comes from its selectable measurement scales and its thermocouple input. Velocity can be displayed in m/s, km/h, ft/min, knots, or mile/hr, and temperature reads in °C or °F with automatic temperature compensation.
When a thermocouple is fitted (sold separately), the measuring capability depends on the sensor type. A Type K sensor covers -50 to 1300°C (-58 to 2372°F), while a Type J sensor covers -50 to 1200°C (-58 to 2192°F); both provide 0.1°C resolution and ±(0.4% + 0.5°C) accuracy over their main spans, easing to ±(0.4% + 1°C) at the coldest sub-range.
Key Product Differences
The series consists of one meter supported by a set of interface and replacement accessories:
- HHF-SD2 — Data-logging vane anemometer with SD card
- SW-U101-WIN — Software for data logging from meters, with USB and RS232 cables
- HC-SD — Replacement hard carrying case
- SC-SD — Soft carrying case
- ADAPTER-SD — AC adaptor
- USB-SD — Spare USB cable (SW-U101-WIN software required)
- RS232-SD — Spare RS232 cable (SW-U101-WIN software required)
- 2GB-SD — Spare 2 GB SD memory card
Type K and Type J thermocouples are ordered separately to match the temperature task, and a spare beaded-wire thermocouple is available as model SC-GG-K-30-36.

per a previous question regarding real-time data readout on a computer, if this is not possible, then what is the purpose of the usb and the rs232 output jack? If the data can not be transferred in real time then why include those features?
Thank you for your inquiry and the purpose of the RS232 connection is for data transfer purposes, unfortunately, it does not allow for real-time display

Can the hot wire probe replacement be attached to this device in place of the vane?
Unfortunately, the probes cannot be interchanged with each other. The probe is specifically calibrated for each individual probe.

To be able to record airflow , and determine a minimum flow for application, we want to monitor airflow. I'M looking to transfer date continuously direct into a computer. Can we do this with this anemometer or do you have something else to suggest ?
Thank you fro your inquiry about the anemometer. This unit uses a “recording session” model for data logging. Meaning that the unit records for X amount of time (session), and after the recording is completed the SD card can be removed from the unit and inserted into a computer to view that recorded data after the session. This unit does not have the ability to display readings to a computer as the readings are being taken, all viewing on the computer would be done after recording.
Please email to flow@omega.com and can provide a potential substitute.

How long is the probe cable?
Thank you for your inquiry. The cable length is approximately 3 feet and there is no option for longer lengths.
