Supported Applications
The Dwyer Series VA-K Flowmeter Kits provide variable area flow measurement capability for air and water. Designed as an economical solution, the kits include a completely assembled flowmeter with interchangeable components to accommodate diverse low-flow requirements.
Operating Conditions & Performance
Performance is rated at ±2% FS @ 70°F (21.1°C) and 14.7 psia (1 atm absolute), with a repeatability of ±0.25% of scale reading. The series supports process temperatures up to 250°F (121°C). Flow rates are specified for standard pressure and temperature conditions: 70°F (21°C) @ 760 mm Hg.
Measurement Ranges
The kits utilize three interchangeable 150 mm flow tubes to cover a broad spectrum of capacities. Available ranges include:
- Air with Glass floats: 1.8 to 22,536 mL/min across tube numbers 042-15 through 044-40.
- Water with Glass floats: 0.02 to 541 mL/min across tube numbers 042-15 through 044-40.
- Air with 316 SS or Tantalum floats: Ranges extend from 5.8 to 62,588 mL/min depending on the float material and flow tube selection (e.g., Air/316 SS ranges include 5.8 to 7,590 mL/min; Air/Tantalum reaches up to 62,588 mL/min).
- Water with 316 SS or Tantalum floats: Ranges extend from 0.02 to 2,001 mL/min (e.g., Water/316 SS ranges include 0.09 to 617 mL/min; Water/Tantalum reaches up to 2,001 mL/min).
Configuration Options
The Series VA-K is offered as a complete kit containing the flowmeter assembly and accessories required for operation and maintenance. The series supports two primary end fitting materials: Anodized aluminum or 316 SS.
Included Components
- Completely assembled flowmeter with three interchangeable 150 mm flow tubes (supplied with glass floats installed).
- Spare 316 SS and Tantalum floats to extend flow capacities.
- High flow valve cartridge.
- Tripod base, tweezers, pushrod, and locking tool for changing floats and flow tubes.
- Correlation charts and plastic carrying case.
Wetted Materials & Connections
The process connection is 1/8" female NPT. Wetted materials vary by component:
- Borosilicate glass (Flowtube).
- Glass, 316 SS, or tantalum (Floats).
- PTFE (Float Stops).
- Anodized aluminum or 316 SS (End Fittings).
- O-rings: Buna-N on aluminum models; Fluoroelastomer on stainless steel models.
- Valve Orifice: Acetal on aluminum models; PCTFE on stainless steel models.
Key Product Differences
The series is available in two model variants, VA-K1 and VA-K2. The primary distinction between configurations lies in the end fitting material (Anodized aluminum or 316 SS) which dictates compatible O-ring materials (Buna-N vs. Fluoroelastomer) and valve orifice composition (Acetal vs. PCTFE). All kits include three flow tubes with glass floats pre-installed, while spare metal floats are provided to enable higher capacity measurements.
