Supported Applications

The Omega RH-USB Series is a USB Temperature & Humidity Sensor with Datalogging Software designed for direct connection to a PC. The series includes the RH-USB model, which measures relative humidity and temperature. According to the product overview, these devices are intended to turn a PC into a data logger using free software.

Explicit usage restrictions state that this device is not designed for use in medical or nuclear applications. Additionally, do not operate this device in flammable or explosive environments.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The RH-USB sensor features a stainless steel housing and connects via USB to provide output signals directly to the host computer. The overall length of the RH-USB unit is 131 mm (5.18 in).

Detailed technical specifications such as measurement ranges, accuracy values, resolution, response time, or operating temperature limits are not provided for the RH-USB model beyond general descriptions in the source documentation.

Configuration Options

The series supports a direct USB electrical connection. The housing material for the RH-USB is stainless steel. While other models within the broader Omega USB family (such as TJ-USB, UTC-USB, PX409-USB, and IR-USB) offer different measurement types including thermocouple temperature, universal thermocouple conversion, pressure transduction, and infrared sensing, these capabilities are specific to their respective model numbers.

Accessories listed for the broader USB family include:

  • Laser Sighting Accessory (OS100-LS)
  • Mounting Bracket (OS100-MB)
  • Water Cooling Jacket (OS100-WC)
  • Air Purge Collar (OS100-AP)

The series complies with worldwide safety and EMI/EMC regulations. Certification to European New Approach Directives is being pursued.

Key Product Differences

The Omega USB Series encompasses multiple distinct measurement technologies under a single family manual, though the RH-USB-Series specifically addresses temperature and relative humidity sensing via USB. Other models in the broader product overview include:

  • TJ-USB: Type-K Thermocouple (overall length 914.4 mm / 36.0 in; stem lengths of 457.18 mm / 18.0 in or 609.6 mm / 24.0 in)
  • UTC-USB: Universal Thermocouple Connector/Converter
  • PX409-USB: Pressure Transducer (wetted material: 316L stainless steel)
  • IR-USB: Infrared Temperature Sensor

The RH-USB is distinguished by its specific measurement of relative humidity and temperature, whereas the other models serve different sensing functions. Dimensions for UTC-USB, PX409-USB, and IR-USB are not specified in the provided documentation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exactly what was needed! We have had this unit installed and working with a MS Access database that reads the Temp / RH on a timer and prints it on the calibration certificate. Working perfectly so far!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy Temp/Humidity Logging I bought this temperature/humidity probe for our physical testing lab and attached it to the USB port of a PC attached to a test instrument running in lab ambient conditions. The probe was easy to install after downloading Omega's software and logs our testing conditions but I had to get help running the software. Omega's data logging team was able to help.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product for awesome price! just bought this product a week ago and couldn't be more pleased. The usb and software makes using this device so easy and just requires downloading the software. The data is very very easy to copy and paste to excel. The software's plotting program is not the best but is good for a quick view of whats going on. 100% would recommend and I already thinking about how I can buy more sensors from omega... seriously so easy to use.

How can I connect my own software to the sensor? Do you provide a list of commands that can be sent via Serial communication?

Asked by: bart30332
You would need to use this software to have it work with the computer: ftp://ftp.omega.com/public/DASGroup/products/RH-USB/TRH%20Central_1.3.17.0721_online.zip If you want to use the telnet commands, here is the list: ftp://ftp.omega.com/public/DASGroup/products/RH-USB/RH_USB%20Command%20Reference.pdf Thank you for your question.

Is this require to be calibrated annually?

Asked by: JAM1991
Performance of the sensor can vary depending on frequency of use, application and storage conditions, so there is no simple answer to your question. Calibration requirements are based on your company procedures. Some companies require equipment to be calibrated annually. Others are comfortable with calibration only when the item readings are drifting from the specs.

Does this unit come with a calibration certificate? Does the unit need to be sent back to an authorized Omega dealer for re-calibration? Need to know for non-US locations.

Asked by: LeahM
Thank you for your question. All Omega products are provided with CAL-1 ( cert of conformance). You can request a Cal-2 ( nist instrument calibration) which is no charge when you place an order. If service is required you can send back directly to Omega. Just contact Customer Service-1-800-622-2378 or CSERVICE@OMEGA.COM.

Is this sensor pressure rated? I.E. if placed in a sealed system (45psi), will it leak pressure through the sensor?

Asked by: seend
Thank you for the inquiry. This sensor is not rated for pressure. It would leak through. Best regards OMEGA

My RH-USB probe came with a white, porous plastic/teflon cover that slides over the end, blocking the inlet screens. Does this cap serve some purpose other than to keep crud from getting in the probe during shipping? Do I run the probe with it on or off?

Asked by: Sonartech
Thank you for your inquiry Sonartech. The purpose of the cap is for protection during shipping. You can still use to cover the sensor for protection.

The “RH_USB Command Reference.doc” indicates how to send a command to request the model number and firmware version but doesn’t give a command for Serial Number. What command is used to request the RH-USB instrument serial number?

Asked by: Test Engineer MS
Thank you for your question. Unfortunately, there is no command for serial number.
