Supported Applications

The Omega SPJ Series consists of universal snap-in panel jack connectors designed for standard and miniature male thermocouple connectors. These self-securing devices feature a design that eliminates the need for separate mounting hardware by incorporating retaining spring clips directly into the body. The series supports ANSI-designated calibrations including K, T, J, E, R/S, U, and N. Type U (uncompensated) models are specified for use with Type B thermocouples, 2-wire RTDs, or thermistors.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The SPJ Series connectors are constructed from glass-filled nylon rated for an ambient temperature range of -29 to 220°C (-20 to 425°F). The electrical connection accepts solid or stranded wire up to size 14 AWG. Each unit includes combination Phillips/slot screws and a wire divider.

Physical dimensions are defined as follows:

  • Overall Height: 44.45 mm (1.75 in)
  • Overall Width: 24.6 mm (0.97 in)
  • Panel Cutout: 16.12 mm (0.635 in) x 30.4 mm (1.195 in)

Configuration Options

The series offers configurable options for thermocouple type, connector gender, and identification accessories.

  • Thermocouple Calibrations: Available with compensating alloys matching Type K (Yellow), T (Blue), J (Black), E (Purple), R/S (Green), U (White), and N (Orange). Tungsten alloys C, D, and G are available only in the old, non-universal style.
  • Connector Gender: Models are offered as female connectors (suffix "-F") or male pins. To order a male version, change the suffix from "F" to "M" (e.g., SPJ-K-M).
  • Identification & Protection: Optional dust caps (SPJ-CAP) and ID number labels are available in ranges 1-6L through 1-100L. Custom marking is offered by consulting the Sales Department.

Key Product Differences

The SPJ Series distinguishes itself from previous generations via a universal snap-in design that accepts both standard and miniature male connectors without additional tools. A small tab and notch on the body facilitate straight, even rows during installation. For large volume users requiring removal of installed units, the SIRT-1 Removal Tool is available.

Model numbering follows the format SPJ-[Alloy Code]-[Gender], where "F" denotes female and "M" denotes male. The series replaces the previous UPJ style; legacy orders can be converted by replacing the initial "S" with a "U" in the model number (e.g., changing SPJ to UPJ).

For securing wires with the screwdown, there is the screw itself, then a plate, then the plastic base with the brass fitting. Should the thermocouple wire be sandwiched between the screw and the plate, or bewteen the plate and the base?

Asked by: rk4321
Thank you for your inquiry rk4321. You lift the screw and the plate goes up. You insert the wire and then you tight the screw tightening the plate on top of the wire. Therefore, the wire will be between the plate and the base.

The datasheet provides the panel cutout size, and the side profile size of the jack connector, but not how wide the actual connector is from the front. How wide are the jacks/how far apart do the cutouts need to be spaced for side-by-side jacks?

Asked by: malomartwo
Thank you for your inquiry! The panel jacks will have a width of 0.75" and therefore the 0.115" apart

Just checking if this jack panel is "CE approved"? If not, are there any jack panel that has a CE approval rating? Thank you.

Asked by: Hi Tech Furnace
Thank you for your inquiry. None of our jack panel assemblies carry a CE approval.
