Supported Applications

The Dwyer Series UFB Ultrasonic Flowmeter Set measures liquid flow in closed pipes using clamp-on transducers and ultrasonic transit-time difference techniques. The series is designed for homogeneous liquids capable of ultrasonic wave propagation, including clean liquids or oils with less than 3% by volume of particulate content. Documented applications include sea or river water, potable water, demineralized water, treated water, cloudy liquids such as effluent, and cleaner liquids.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The Series UFB operates with a measurement range of 0.33 to 33 ft/s (0.1 to 10 m/s). Accuracy varies by flow rate and pipe outside diameter: ±0.5 to ±2% of flow reading for flow rates > 0.03 ft/s (0.01 m/s) with pipe ODs > 3.0 in (75 mm); ±3% of flow reading for flow rates > 0.03 ft/s (0.01 m/s) and pipe ODs from 0.5 to 3 in (13 to 75 mm); and ±6% of flow reading for flow rates < 0.03 ft/s (0.01 m/s). Repeatability is specified as ±0.5 % of measured value or 0.03 ft/s (0.01 m/s), with a response time of less than 500 ms.

Operating temperature limits are -4 to 275°F (-20 to 135°C) for transducers and -4 to 122°F (-20 to 50°C) for the controller. The enclosure rating is IP65 when using TNC connectors, with transducers rated IP54. Media compatibility requires turbidity less than 3% by volume of particulate content and permissible air content less than 3% by volume.

Configuration Options

The series supports pipe outside diameters from 0.5 to 79 inches (13 to 2000 mm) as standard, with optional Type 'D' sensors available for pipes up to 197 inches (5000 mm). The instrument housing is constructed of plastic ABS and aluminum.

Output signals include:

• Analog: One opto-isolated output selectable as 4-20 mA, 0-16 mA, or 0-20 mA (error current selectable 0-26 mA; load resistance max 620 Ω).
• Pulse: One opto-isolated MOSFET relay at 48 V, 500 mA maximum, 1 to 250 pps with a pulse width of 2 to 500 ms (selectable).
• Alarm: Two opto-isolated programmable alarm outputs using MOSFET NO relays rated for 48 V at 500 mA, maximum 200 Hz.

Volumetric flow rates are displayed in units including L/h, L/min, L/sec, gal/min, USgals/min, m³/s, and Barrel/day. Linear velocity is available in meters per second or feet per second. Power supply options include 86-264 VAC (50 to 60 Hz) or 24 VAC/VDC (1 A max). Wetted materials compatible with the clamp-on installation include carbon steel, SS, copper, UPVC/PVDF, concrete, mild steel, glass, and brass.

The Series UFB is offered in four standard model configurations based on pipe size range and power supply:

• UFB-122: Pipe sizes 0.5 to 4.5 inches (13 to 115 mm); Power: 86-264 VAC.
• UFB-123: Pipe sizes 2 to 79 inches (50 to 2000 mm); Power: 86-264 VAC.
• UFB-222: Pipe sizes 0.5 to 4.5 inches (13 to 115 mm); Power: 24 VAC/VDC.
• UFB-223: Pipe sizes 2 to 79 inches (50 to 2000 mm); Power: 24 VAC/VDC.

The unit weight is 2.80 lb (1.26 kg) excluding accessories and 9.92 lb (4.5 kg) including accessories. An optional NIST traceable calibration certificate is available under order code NISTCAL-FU.
