Supported Applications
The Omega Thin Leaf-Type Thermocouples series (Models 88302, 88303, 88304, 88309) and magnetic thermocouple probes (Models 88401, 88402) are designed for measuring temperature in layered surfaces. Documented applications include monitoring layers of plywood, plastic, paper, and various laminates. The series also supports long-term contact pressure applications.
Operating Conditions & Performance
All probes meet Standard Limits of Error. Process temperature limits vary by model: 210°C (410°F) for Models 88302 and 88309; 215°C (420°F) for Models 88303 and 88304; 250°C (480°F) for Model 88401; and 400°C (752°F) for Model 88402. The response time is specified as 10 seconds to reach full surface temperature for Models 88401 and 88402.
Configuration Options
The series offers distinct physical configurations including flat leaf-type probes and magnetic thermocouple probes. Key configurable attributes include:
- Sensor Elements: Available in Type K and Type E thermocouples.
- Housing & Materials: Models 88303, 88304, and 88309 feature a PFA jacket. Model 88401 uses PFA insulated lead wire; Model 88402 utilizes "GG" fiberglass insulated lead wire.
- Connectors & Adaptors: Supplied with OMEGA® OSTW standard-size connector, SMPW miniature connector, TAS-2 standard-to-mini adaptor, and TAS-3 adaptor. A TEC extension cable is included.
- Dimensions: Model 88401 measures 27.0 mm (1.06") length, 19 mm (0.75") height, with a depth of 19 mm (0.75"). Model 88402 is 9.5 mm (0.38") width, 16 mm (0.63") height, and 38 mm (1.5") deep.
- Lead Lengths: Overall length is 48 cm (19") for Model 88304 and 100 mm (4") for Model 88309.
Key Product Differences
The series distinguishes between non-replaceable and replaceable element designs. Due to design and construction, the elements in Models 88302, 88303, 88304, and 88402 are not replaceable. Conversely, Model 88401 probes come with a replaceable element; replacement parts include 88401K-RE for the K element and 88401E-RE for the E element.
Model-specific temperature limits define selection: Models 88302, 88309 are rated to 210°C (410°F); Models 88303, 88304 to 215°C (420°F); Model 88401 to 250°C (480°F); and Model 88402 to 400°C (752°F). The "To Order" table lists specific configurations such as Magnetic K thermocouple, max temp 250°C (480°F) for 88401K; Magnetic E thermocouple, max temp 250°C (480°F) for 88401E; and similar variants up to 400°C (752°F) for Model 88402.

Flat Stanley VLE
Well, it's not Stanley but the flat ribbon thermocouple is excellent under heating tape. The application is temperature control in a 100 ml glass boiler of a vapor liquid equilibrium VLE, with a second ribbon thermocouple monitoring for failsafe shutdown.

great product
We absolutely love these probes. The head of the probe is about 1 inch by 1/2 inch and the magnets are extremely strong no problem staying attached even through thick industrial finished pipes and machine housings. rapid response time like all omega probes.

Great product!
This is the best magnetic thermocouple on the market! I have tried a couple of others that have a less than desirable magnetic force.

Are any of these offered with special limits or is there an equivalent product that does?
Hi,
All probe series in this category meet the standard limits of error.

When I purchase the Thin Leaf-Type Thermocouples, does it comes with the calibration certificate? or the calibration must be paid separately and what is the cost? thanks, Huy Le
Thank you for your inquiry Anonymous. The thin leaf-type thermocouples do not come with calibration. Please send a request for pricing for the probe and calibration at sales@omega.com
