Supported Applications
The Omega Series 88000 consists of handheld thermocouple surface temperature probes designed for measuring the surface temperatures of small electronic parts, as well as high-temperature environments such as ovens and furnaces. The series includes right-angle pencil-head models specifically suited to stationary surfaces.
Operating Conditions & Performance
All probes in this series meet Standard Limits of Error for thermocouple accuracy. Maximum surface temperature ratings vary by model configuration:
- 760°C (1400°F): Models 88106, 88107, 88108, and 88010.
- 480°C (900°F): Models 88006, 88016, and 88026.
- 250°C (480°F): Model 88007.
The series features a fast-response design. Specific numeric response times are not provided in the documentation; performance is described qualitatively as "fast response." Sheath lengths for high-temperature right-angle models include 102 mm (4") for model 88106, 203 mm (8") for model 88107, and a 300 mm (12") reach for models 88108 and 88010.
Configuration Options
The Series 88000 offers configurable sensor types, connector options, and serviceability features to accommodate different measurement needs:
- Sensor Types: Available with Type K (CHROMEGA-ALOMEGA) or Type E (CHROMEGA-Constantan) thermocouples. The calibration code is appended as a suffix (e.g., "K" or "E").
- Connectors: All models are supplied standard with a molded SMP or SMPW subminiature male connector. A TAS adaptor is sold separately.
- Optional Plugs: Male M8 or M12 straight and right-angled plugs can be added via model number suffixes (e.g., M8-S-M, M12-S-M, M8-R-M) at additional cost. Note: The printed text lists "M12-S-M" for both straight and right-angled configurations.
- Replaceable Elements: Factory replaceable element service is available by adding the suffix -RE to the model number (e.g., 88026K-RE). Replacement elements are not included with new probes and must be ordered separately. OMEGA can install these elements for an additional cost.
- Housing Styles: Includes miniature fast-response models, right-angle long-reach probes, and pencil-head designs where the sensing head is either parallel or perpendicular to the handle.
Key Product Differences
The series distinguishes between high-temperature reach configurations and miniature surface contact styles:
- High-Temperature Reach Models (88106, 88107, 88108): Right-angle probes rated to 760°C (1400°F) with sheath lengths of 102 mm (4"), 203 mm (8"), and 300 mm (12") respectively.
- Oven/Furnace Model (88010): A long, 300 mm (12") reach version of the miniature probe design, rated to 760°C (1400°F).
- Miniature Models (88006, 88007): Fast-response probes for small electronic parts; model 88006 is rated to 480°C (900°F) and model 88007 to 250°C (480°F).
- Pencil-Head Models (88016, 88026): High-temperature right-angle probes with miniature pencil-type heads rated to 480°C (900°F). Model 88016 features a sensing head parallel to the handle; model 88026 has a sensing head perpendicular to the handle.

Reliable Probe
I have bought about a dozen of these for various applications in the semiconductor industry. Surface temperature is harder to measure than I initially thought, but these probes give the most accurate and quickest response of any probe I have found, and I have tried many.

In Stock, great part, consider switching to E-Type
E-Type thermocouples were in stock while others were not. E-Types still fit our temperature range and were delivered quickly.

Many of the 88000-hightemp probes are listed as fast response type. What is the response rate of these probes? (I'm interested specifically in version: 88106k)
Hi JamesB
Thank you for the inquiry. Respose Time: The accuracy and response time of surface probes can vary significantly depending on measuring conditions, measurement target, and the nature of the contact between the probe and measurement target. That’s why they are not specified. When using a surface probe, we recommend to make sure the probe head correctly contacts target surface usually in a perfect perpendicular position. As an example, 88007K was tested by measuring stationary metal surface temperature at 300 deg F and found that the sensor had a response time of 7.5 sec

Could you please provide the accuracy tolerance ranges for the following models? 88006E 88107E
The accuracy for both is +/-3 C or 0.1 % whichever value is greater

Do you make custom temperature probes?
Thank you for your inquiry. In general we can provide custom probes, but it depends on the probe style. Please send your request to temp@omega.com and we can review and advise.
