Supported Applications

The OM-EL-USB-TC-LCD is a standalone thermocouple data logger that measures and stores temperature readings from Type J, K, or T thermocouples. Because it accepts external thermocouples through a female subminiature thermocouple connector, it can be paired with a probe suited to the target environment, extending its reach far beyond the range of self-contained sensor loggers.

Typical applications include:

  • Furnace, oven, and kiln temperature profiling.
  • Process, plant, and equipment temperature monitoring.
  • Refrigeration, freezer, and cold-chain verification.
  • Laboratory and research temperature studies.

The logger plugs directly into a PC's USB port with no USB cable required, and its high-contrast LCD lets technicians read the current temperature on the unit. A free Type K insulated beaded wire thermocouple with subminiature connector (Model No. SC-GG-K-30-36) is included so the logger is ready to deploy on arrival.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The data logger module is rated for an operating temperature range of -10 to 40°C (14 to 104°F). This applies to the module only; the temperature that can be measured depends on the attached thermocouple, which supports the following ranges:

  • Type K: -200 to 1350°C (-328 to 2462°F).
  • Type J: -200 to 1190°C (-328 to 2174°F).
  • Type T: -200 to 390°C (-328 to 734°F).

Measurement performance is defined by a resolution of 0.5°C (1°F) and an accuracy of ±1.0°C (±2.0°F). This quoted accuracy is for the data logger only and excludes the thermocouple probe, so probe error should also be taken into consideration.

The logger stores up to 32,510 readings, with the logging interval selectable in software as 1 sec, 10 sec, 1 min, 5 min, 30 min, 1 hr, 6 hr, or 12 hr. Temperature units, thermocouple type, alarm thresholds, and start date/time are all configured through the included Windows software.

Power is supplied by an included ½ AA 3.6V lithium battery giving up to 6 Months of operation. The unit measures 134.5 mm (5.3 in) in overall length by 25.3 mm (0.99 in) in diameter and weighs 114 g (4 oz). The logger carries CE marking and is manufactured under ISO 9001 certification.

Configuration Options

This series is supplied as a single model, the OM-EL-USB-TC-LCD, whose capability lies in its support for three thermocouple types from one unit.

By selecting the thermocouple type in software, the same logger can measure across the Type K range of -200 to 1350°C (-328 to 2462°F), the Type J range of -200 to 1190°C (-328 to 2174°F), or the Type T range of -200 to 390°C (-328 to 734°F). Temperature can be displayed in °C or °F, also selectable in software.

On-unit feedback is provided by a 4-digit LCD and status indication through red and green LEDs, and 2 user-programmable alarm thresholds flag high or low temperature excursions. Logged data can be graphed, printed, and exported to other applications such as Excel.

Key Product Differences

The series is ordered with the following model numbers:

  • OM-EL-USB-TC-LCD — thermocouple data logger with LCD display and USB interface, supplied with measurement leads, software on CD, and battery.
  • OM-EL-BATT — replacement 3.6V lithium battery.

An OMEGACARE extended warranty program is available, adding three years to the standard 1 year warranty.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Overall good piece Good piece for the money. Manual wasn't that thorough, but there isn't much about the product to be thorough about, it's fairly straight forward for the most part. My only question was how, if possible, to stop the machine from running. There are three options on how/when to start recording, but it doesn't say anything about stopping it, unless you plug it in to the computer. If that is the only way to stop the testing, I feel that is a design flaw. Otherwise, great piece of equipment.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Convenient recorder but software dependent Seems to be a nice data recorder, but you can’t do anything with it without loading the Omega software on your computer. If you work in a setting that requires IT approval for that sort of thing, or want to easily share it between multiple users, that could be problematic.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from works great does everything it's advertised to do. support from Omega was also really appreciated - my IT department blocked the driver and Omega was able to show me where to find it so that I could install the software. these data loggers do the job and the software is very intuitive to use

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for concrete monitoring We use these devices to monitor concrete temperatures during the first 5 days of curing. Great for saving heating costs when the internal temperature shows it is above the requirements

Does this thermocouple logger display compensated temperature readings? The manual and product details do not clearly indicate whether cold junction compensation is performed via dedicated circuit when converting voltage to temperature.

Asked by: DavidL
Hello David It is not mentioned in the specs, though generally for our thermocouple loggers / monitors, cold junction compensation is built in to the circuitry and performed when converting voltage to temperature.
