The Omega T-Handle Penetration Thermocouple Probe (Series 88313) is a handheld temperature sensor designed for industrial, food, and laboratory applications. The series supports measurement in the frozen food industry and soft materials such as rubber. Specific configurations within the broader specialty probe family are documented for steam washdown applications.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The 88313 T-Handle Penetration Probe meets or exceeds Special Limits of Error (SLE) and EN 60584-2 Tolerance Class 1. Measurement ranges vary by thermocouple type: sub-zero to 425°C (800°F) for Type E, and sub-zero to 480°C (900°F) for Type K. The handle is rated for temperatures up to 162°C (325°F). For epoxy coated tip thermocouples in the family, the limit is 105°C (221°F).

Wetted materials include 304 Stainless Steel and Inconel 600. The probe features a black plastic handle with a 304 SS stem.

Configuration Options

The series is configurable across multiple thermocouple types, sheath materials, lengths, and connector options as defined in the model number guide:

  • Thermocouple Types: Type J, K, T, or E.
  • Sheath Materials: 304 Stainless Steel (SS) or Inconel 600 (INC).
  • Tip Styles: Penetration tip, threaded tip, hypodermic tip, or epoxy sealed junction tip.
  • Diameters: Available in ¼" OD (6.4 mm), ⅛" OD (3.2 mm), and 1.6 mm (0.063").
  • Insertion Lengths: Options include 100 mm (4"), 203 mm (8"), and 250 mm (10"). Stem length is available at 150 mm (6"). Overall cable lengths vary, including 1.5 m (5') for standard probes.
  • Connectors: Miniature connector, subminiature male connector (SMPW-M), or molded miniature connector. Stripped leads are available as an option by adding the "-SE" suffix to epoxy coated models.

The series supports PFA insulated wire options with lengths such as 1.8 m (6') and 4.5 m (15'). Other lengths are available upon consultation with Sales.

Differentiation within the Omega specialty probe family is defined by specific model codes:

  • 88313 Series: T-Handle Penetration Probe (e.g., 88313-K).
  • 88312 Series: Fine Tip TJ Probe.
  • 88310 Series: Low-Profile Penetration Probe, rated to 162°C (325°F) for the handle.
  • TJFT72 / TC-PVC / 5TC-PVC: Epoxy Coated Tip Thermocouples and Autoclave Probes with specific insulation and connector configurations.

Selecting a model requires specifying the thermocouple type, calibration (matching J, K, T, or E), sheath material (SS or INC), length code, and connector style. Junction types are available as Grounded (G) or Ungrounded (U).
