Supported Applications
The Omega SPHT Series consists of economical, high-temperature surface probes designed for measuring surface temperature. These thermocouple-based sensors are configured with a ceramic tip and spring-loaded contacts to ensure reliable contact on the target material.
- Type J, K, or E calibrations available
- Standard Limits of Error compliance across all models in this series
Operating Conditions & Performance
The SPHT Series is engineered for high-temperature surface measurements with a ceramic tip rated to 650ºC (1200ºF). The molded utility handle provides thermal protection, rated to 220ºC (428ºF), allowing safe handling during operation. Electrical connectivity is provided via a retractable cable that expands to 1.5 m (5′) terminating in a subminiature connector for use with handheld thermometers.
Key Performance Parameters
- Process Temperature: Ceramic tip rated to 650ºC (1200ºF)
- Ambient/Handle Rating: Molded utility handle rated to 220ºC (428ºF)
- Accuracy Class: Standard Limits of Error
Physical Dimensions
The series offers two primary probe lengths with corresponding sheath diameters. The standard configuration includes a handle section length of 136.5 mm (5 3⁄8″) and a surface tip diameter of 9.52 mm (3⁄8″). For right-angle models, the vertical leg measures 69.8 mm (2 3⁄4″).
Configuration Options
The SPHT Series supports multiple configurations to accommodate different measurement geometries and calibration requirements.
Calibration Options
- Type J surface probe
- Type K surface probe
- Type E surface probe
Probe Lengths & Sheath Sizes
- 150 mm (6″) length with 3.0 mm (1⁄8″) sheath diameter
- 300 mm (12″) length with 6.0 mm (1⁄4″) sheath diameter
Housing & Connection Features
- Molded utility handle rated to 220ºC (428ºF)
- Retractable cable expands to 1.5 m (5′)
- Subminiature connector for handheld thermometers
- Included plastic cap for protection of the surface element
Special Configurations
A 90° right angle probe is available by ordering models with the -RA suffix. The sheath material is specified as 304 SS OMEGACLAD®.
Key Product Differences
The SPHT Series distinguishes variants primarily through calibration type, physical dimensions, and geometric orientation.
- Calibration: Models are designated by J, K, or E in the part number to indicate Type J, Type K, or Type E surface probes respectively.
- Length & Diameter: The numeric suffix '6' denotes a 150 mm (6″) probe with a 3.0 mm (1⁄8″) sheath diameter; the suffix '12' denotes a 300 mm (12″) probe with a 6.0 mm (1⁄4″) sheath diameter.
- Orientation: Models ending in -RA feature a 90° right angle surface probe design, while standard models are straight probes.
The SPHT-K-6 model is included at no additional cost with specific infrared thermometers: OS532E, OS533E, OS534E, OS534E-CF, and OS533E-CF.

How it works
Thank you for your inquiry. The SPHT Series surface probes are spring loaded probes where you basically apply some pressure on the tip of the probe to get a temperature reading.
