Supported Applications

The Omega FT-SMC Series subminiature thermoplastic quick couplings are designed for medical and surgical instrumentation, air logic systems, pneumatic control systems, and disposable medical devices. These fittings provide a leak-free seal with replaceable O-rings to support applications requiring corrosion resistance, kink/twist prevention, and easy-to-use positive locking.

Media compatibility includes FDA-compatible materials (Acetal and Polypropylene) for chemical applications. Specific models in Polycarbonate are available where gamma sterilizability is required.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series operates within a pressure range of Vacuum to 6.9 bar (100 psi). Ambient operating temperatures vary by housing material:

  • Acetal: -40 to 82°C (-40 to 180°F)
  • Polypropylene: 0 to 82°C (32 to 180°F)

The wetted materials consist of Acetal, Polypropylene, and Buna with Acetal or EPR with Polypropylene. RoHS compliance is determined by individual model number.

Configuration Options

The FT-SMC Series offers configurable dimensions across in-line, panel mount, and pipe thread configurations to accommodate specific installation needs. The series supports the following tubing sizes:

  • Hose Barb (In-Line): 1/16" x 1/16", 1/8" x 1/8" (4 x 4 mm), and 3 x 3 mm.
  • Panel Mount: 1/2" Hex body with tubing sizes of 1/16", 3 mm, and 4 mm. Maximum panel thickness is 7/32"; the required panel opening is 7/16".
  • Pipe Thread: 1/8 NPT Male (Body Half).

Coupling halves are available as Insert Halves and Body Halves. For pipe thread and panel mount applications, both coupling halves must be specified to make a complete connection.

Housing Materials & Options

  • Acetal: Standard straight-through models (e.g., FT-SMC-01) and shutoff models (e.g., FT-SMCD-01).
  • Polypropylene: Straight-through models available for specific sizes; noted as FDA compatible.
  • Polycarbonate: Available only for gamma sterilizable models.

Functionality Options

  • Straight Through: Standard flow path without shutoff capability.
  • Shutoff (Single Side): Models designated with a "D" suffix in the model number guide provide single side shutoff functionality. Note that Polypropylene shutoff models are not listed for all sizes in the specification tables.

Key Product Differences

The series distinguishes between complete in-line couplings and coupling halves (Insert Half vs. Body Half). Model numbers follow a guide structure: FT-SMC Series - <Tubing Size> - <Configuration> - <Material> - <Function>. Examples include FT-SMC-01 for Acetal straight-through in-line, and FT-SMM-01 for the Insert Half of an in-line coupling.

Lengths vary by configuration. For example, 1/16" x 1/16" Hose Barb complete couplings measure 1.32" (Straight Through) or 1.46" (Shutoff). Panel Mount halves generally have a length of 0.90", while Pipe Thread Body Halves are listed at 0.86".

Specific model number variations exist for metric tubing sizes, such as FT-SMC-M3 and FT-SMM-M3 for 3 mm ID applications. The "-12" suffix in part numbers (e.g., FT-SMC-01-12) denotes the Polypropylene material variant.
