Supported Applications
The Omega STYLE 3 RTD series comprises fast-response exposed Resistance Temperature Detector (RTD) elements with lead wires. These sensors feature a thin-film or wire-wound sensing element designed for rapid thermal response, documented as less than 75 milliseconds in water flowing at 3 feet per second. The series is engineered to connect directly to most handheld instruments and data acquisition systems.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The measurement range extends up to 480°C (900°F) for standard insulated configurations, with bare wire options available for use to 600°C (1112°F). Accuracy is defined by the selected element and configuration class:
- Class 'A' = ±0.06 Ω (standard)
- Class 'B' = ±0.12 Ω
- ¼ DIN = ±0.04 Ω
- ⅛ DIN = ±0.012 Ω
Note that ¼ DIN and ⅛ DIN accuracies are available only with the 1PT100K2515 and 1PT100KN2528 wire-wound elements in 4-wire configurations.
Element & Cable Specifications
The series supports multiple element types, including thin-film (F3105: 2 x 2 mm; F3102: 4 x 5 mm) and wire-wound options. Lead wires are #26 AWG with standard lengths of 1 m (40"). Cable insulation materials determine the maximum operating temperature:
- PFA insulated cable: Maximum 230°C (450°F)
- Fiberglass insulated cable: Maximum 480°C (900°F)
- Bare wire option: Use to 600°C (1112°F)
Potting materials include Epoxy for PFA-insulated models and Ceramic for fiberglass-insulated models.
Electrical Configurations
Sensors are available in 2-wire, 3-wire, or 4-wire configurations with stripped leads as standard. The series supports various termination options including miniature connectors (MTP-U-M), heavy-duty connectors (OTP-U-M), audio connectors (TA3F, TA4F), copper lugs (-LUG), and a 4 to 20 mA transmitter option (SPRTX).
Configuration Options
The series offers extensive configurability across lead count, element type, cable length, insulation material, termination style, and accuracy class. Model numbers follow the format: RTD - - - - - - .
Available Options
- Connectors: Miniature Connector (MTP-U-M), Heavy-Duty Connector (OTP-U-M), TA3F, and TA4F audio connectors.
- Transmitters & Instruments: 4 to 20 mA Transmitter (SPRTX); compatible with HH504 Thermometer ($85) or HH505 Thermometer ($75).
- Cable Lengths: Standard length is 1 m (40"); longer leads are available by modifying the model number code, adding $2.25/ft for styles 2 and 3, or $1.40/ft for style 1.
Key Product Differences
Variants within this series differ primarily by lead configuration (Style 1: 2-wire; Style 2: 3-wire; Style 3: 4-wire), element construction, and insulation material. The wire-wound elements (1PT100K2515 and 1PT100KN2528) are distinct from the thin-film options as they support higher accuracy classes (¼ DIN and ⅛ DIN). Additionally, models with bare wires (-B cable option) allow for operation at temperatures up to 600°C (1112°F), whereas PFA-insulated models (-T) are limited to 230°C (450°F).

What is the temperature rating on the epoxy joining the RTD to the lead wires? The RTD is a little curved, and I'd like to heat it slightly to straighten it out a bit.
The epoxy and wire insulation are rated to 260 deg C (500 deg F). We do not recommend heating the assembly beyond the rated temperature.
