Supported Applications
The Omega D1000 Series comprises digital transmitters designed for industrial process instrumentation, serving as a sensor-to-serial interface between analog inputs and personal computers or processor-based equipment. These modules convert signals from thermocouples, RTDs, thermistors, voltage sources, current loops, bridge/load cells, pulse/frequency/timer/event counters, and digital I/O lines into engineering units transmitted in ASCII format via RS-232C or RS-485 ports.
Applications include direct sensor interface with integral signal conditioning, scaling, linearization, and conversion. The series supports alarm outputs for limit setting and control functions. With the exception of D1400 RTD and D1500 bridge modules, every module contains an on-board event counter capable of tracking up to 10 million positive transitions.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series operates within an ambient temperature range of -25 to 70°C and a storage temperature range of -25 to 85°C. Relative humidity is rated at 0 to 95% noncondensing. Power requirements are specified as 10 to 30 Vdc with a maximum consumption of 0.75 W.
Performance specifications vary by input type:
- Voltage Modules (D1100/D2100): Accuracy is ±0.02% of FS max; resolution is 0.01% of FS (4 digits).
- Current Modules (D1200/D2200): Accuracy ranges from ±0.02% to 0.04% of FS depending on the range.
- Thermocouple Modules (D1300): Overall accuracy is ±1.0°C max for types J, K, T, E and ±2.5°C max for types R, S, B, C from 0 to +40°C ambient.
- RTD Module (D1400): Accuracy is ±0.3°C with a resolution of 0.1°.
- Thermistor Module (D1450): Accuracy is ±0.2°C; range is 0 to 100°C for the 2252Ω type.
- Bridge Modules (D1500/D2500): Accuracy is ±0.05% of FS max with excitation voltages of 10 V or 5 Vdc available.
- Frequency/Timer Inputs: Frequency accuracy is ±0.01% of reading, ±0.01 Hz; timer accuracy is ±0.01% of reading ±10 µs.
The series provides 2 samples/sec throughput and features analog input isolation to 500 VRMS. Continuous self-calibration with autozero eliminates adjustment requirements.
Configuration Options
The D1000 Series offers a broad envelope of configurable options across sensor types, communication protocols, and digital I/O configurations:
- Sensor Inputs: Voltage (±10 mV to ±100 Vdc), Current (±1 mA to 4-20 mA dc), Thermocouple (Types J, K, T, E, R, S, B, C), RTD (.00385 and .00392 alpha coefficients), Thermistor (2252Ω), Bridge/Load Cell (±30 mV to 6 Vdc with selectable excitation), Frequency (1 Hz to 20 kHz), Timer (100 µs to 30 s), Event Counter, and Digital I/O.
- Communication Interfaces: RS-232C or RS-485 output. The Modbus RTU protocol is available by adding the suffix M to the model number at no additional charge.
- Digital I/O Configurations: D1701/D1702 models provide 7 digital inputs and 8 digital outputs; D1711/D1712 models offer 15 user-definable bits (input or output).
- Housing & Mounting: ABS case with captive mounting hardware. The encapsulated design allows mounting in virtually any location, including explosion-proof housings and on DIN rails.
- Network Topology: Supports up to 32 modules on a single 4-wire cable; up to 124 multidrop modules are supported using the A1000 RS-232C signal converter as a repeater. Remote communications via RS-485 can extend up to 4000 feet from the host computer.
Key Product Differences
The series is divided into distinct model families based on input type and functionality:
- D1000 Series (Standard): Provides direct sensor interface with signal conditioning, scaling, linearization, and conversion to engineering units. Includes integral limit setting for alarm and control outputs.
- D2000 Series (Programmable Linearization): Adds user-programmable linearization of non-standard sensors via the communications port. Supports up to 23 downloadable breakpoints for square law, root, log, high-order polynomial, or other nonlinear functions that may be empirically field-programmed.
- D1700 Digital I/O: Dedicated modules (D1701/D1702 and D1711/D1712) for digital input/output handling without analog conversion. Outputs are open collector to 30V with load capacities of 30 mA or 100 mA depending on the model.
Model numbers follow a structure where the family digit denotes the input type (e.g., D11xx for voltage, D12xx for current, D13xx for thermocouple) and the last digit indicates the communication output: 1 for RS-232C or 2 for RS-485. The series includes a one-year warranty.
