Supported Applications
The Omega CSH4 Series consists of ceramic-insulated, flat-surface heating elements with a seamless Type 304 Stainless Steel sheath. These channel strip heaters are designed for industrial and commercial heating applications including ovens, hot plates, dies, molds, drying processes, melting, baking, incubators, platens, food warmers, welding preheating, air heating, sealing bars, thermoforming, and tank heating.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series features a maximum sheath temperature of 650°C (1200°F). Electrical specifications support a maximum voltage of 480 Vac (dependent on design parameters) with a maximum recommended voltage of 480V when using lead wire terminations. Amperage limits are defined by the termination method: Lead Wire Termination supports up to 10 amp, while Screw Terminations (10-32UNF) support up to 25 amp.
Performance ratings include a nominal watt density of 20 Watts/in² (3.1 Watts/cm²), with a maximum watt density of 45 Watts/in² dependent on design parameters. Tolerances are specified as Resistance: 10%, -5% and Wattage: 5%, -10%. The heaters utilize a rectangular tube construction to maximize heat transfer.
Configuration Options
The CSH4 Series is offered in four standard rectangular sizes with specific availability constraints regarding mounting tabs:
- 16 W x 6 mm thick (5/8" x 1/4"): Available without mounting tabs only.
- 25 W x 8 mm thick (1" x 5/16"): Available with or without mounting tabs. When supplied with Type L lead wire termination, mounting tabs are not available.
- 38 W x 8 mm thick (1 1/2" x 5/16"): Available with or without mounting tabs. When supplied with Type L lead wire termination, mounting tabs are not available.
- 38 W x 10 mm thick (1 1/2" x 3/8"): Available with or without mounting tabs; these heaters feature radius corners. Mounting tabs are not available when supplied with Type L lead wire termination.
Termination options include Screw Terminal Terminations: Type T1 (10-32 Screw Terminals at each end), Type T2 (Tandem at one end), Type T3 (Parallel at one end), and Type T4 (Offset at one end). Lead Wire Terminations are available as Type L (exit from end) or Type L1 (exit from top).
Terminal protection options include Igloo™ ceramic covers: Type C6 (Double Port In-Line), Type C7 (Double Port 90°), and Type C8 (Single Port). Additional cable protections include wire braid, stainless steel braid, armor cable, right-angle armor cable, high-temperature quick disconnect plugs, terminal boxes, or specially designed welded boxes.
Key Product Differences
The series distinguishes between configurations with and without mounting tabs. Heaters supplied without mounting tabs have ends that are silver soldered shut to prevent moisture and contaminants from entering the heater. Mounting slots for standard installation measure 8 x 13 mm (5/16 x 1/2"), while special bushings of 13 x 16 mm (1/2 x 5/8") are available.
Physical construction tolerances vary by dimension: Width tolerance is +0.000, -0.005" for 16 mm wide heaters and +0.000, -0.010" for 25 mm and 38 mm wide heaters. Thickness tolerance is +0.000, -0.005" for 6 mm thick heaters and +0.000, -0.008" for 8 and 10 mm thick heaters. Length tolerances are ±1/16" up to 24" and ±1/8" over 24".
