Supported Applications
The Omega CSH2 Series consists of ceramic-insulated, flat-surface heating elements with a seamless Type 304 Stainless Steel sheath. Designed for surface mounting in industrial and commercial applications, these channel strip heaters are utilized in ovens, hot plates, dies, molds, drying processes, melting operations, baking equipment, incubators, platens, food warmers, welding preheating systems, air heating units, sealing bars, thermoforming machinery, and tank heating.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series is engineered for a maximum sheath temperature of 650°C (1200°F). Electrical specifications support a maximum voltage of 480 Vac dependent on design parameters, with a maximum recommended voltage of 480V when lead wires are present. Amperage limits vary by termination type: up to 10 amp for Lead Wire Terminations and up to 25 amp (3/8-UNF) for Screw Terminations.
Performance ratings include a nominal watt density of 20 Watts/in² (3.1 Watts/cm²), with a maximum watt density of 45 Watts/in² dependent on design parameters. Tolerances are specified as ±10%, -5% for resistance and +5%, -10% for wattage.
Configuration Options
The CSH2 Series is configured by selecting specific dimensions, termination types, and options rather than a single model number. The heaters feature a rectangular tube design available in four standard sizes:
- 16 mm (5/8") Wide x 6 mm (1/4") Thick: Available without mounting tabs only.
- 25 mm (1") Wide x 8 mm (5/16") Thick: Available with or without mounting tabs; mounting tabs are not available when supplied with Type L lead wire termination.
- 38 mm (1 1/2") Wide x 8 mm (5/16") Thick: Available with or without mounting tabs; mounting tabs are not available when supplied with Type L lead wire termination.
- 38 mm (1 1/2") Wide x 10 mm (3/8") Thick: Available with or without mounting tabs; includes radius corners. Mounting tabs are not available when supplied with Type L lead wire termination.
Termination options include Screw Terminals (Type T1, T2, T3, T4) and Lead Wire Terminations (Type L, L1, W1, W2, R1, R2, P, C, MP). Terminal protection is available via Type P, Type C, or Type MP configurations. Ceramic covers for insulating terminals include Types C6, C7, C8, and the Ceramic Cap (Part Number CER-102-101).
Construction utilizes a helically wound nickel-chrome resistance wire coil with high-purity magnesium oxide filling to enhance thermal conductivity and dielectric strength. The series is certified as Recognized Components by Underwriters Laboratories (File Number E65652) under CCN KSOT2/8 to meet UL standard 499 and Canadian Standard C22.2, No 72.
Key Product Differences
Variations within the series are defined by physical dimensions, mounting tab availability, and termination style. The 16 mm wide heaters do not offer mounting tabs, whereas the 25 mm and 38 mm widths may include them unless configured with Type L lead wire terminations. Length tolerances vary based on total length: ±1/16" for lengths up to 24", and ±1/8" for lengths over 24".
Width and thickness tolerances are specified as +0.000, -0.005" for 16 mm wide heaters; +0.000, -0.010" for width on 25 mm and 38 mm heaters; +0.000, -0.005" for thickness on 6 mm thick heaters; and +0.000, -0.008" for thickness on 8 mm and 10 mm thick heaters.
