Supported Applications

The Dwyer Series WE04 is a full port, 2-piece flanged stainless steel ball valve designed for gas and liquid flow control. The series provides quick bubble-tight shut-off capabilities with minimal pressure drop due to its vented ball design. It is configured for applications requiring manual operation or automated actuation via pneumatic or electric systems.

Key functional features include:

  • Flow Control: Full port design optimized for great flow rates and reduced operating torque.
  • Safety & Durability: Blowout-proof stem, reinforced PTFE seats and seals for extended life, and a 316 SS (ASTM CF8M) ball.
  • Remote Monitoring: Limit switches can be mounted directly to the valve assembly for remote position indication.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The Series WE04 operates within specific temperature and pressure envelopes depending on the actuator type selected. The process fluid temperature range is -20 to 392°F (-29 to 200°C). Pressure ratings span from vacuum conditions up to high-pressure service.

  • Pressure Rating: 28" Hg to 275 psi (-0.7 to 19 bar) up to 392°F.
  • Ambient Temperature (Pneumatic Actuators): -40 to 176°F (-40 to 80°C).
  • Ambient Temperature (Electric TD/MD Series): -22 to 140°F (-30 to 60°C).
  • Ambient Temperature (Explosion-Proof TI/MI Series): -40 to 140°F (-40 to 60°C).

The valve body utilizes a 150# ANSI flange connection. Wetted materials include ASTM A351-CF8M for the body and ball, AISI 316 for the stem, PTFE/RTFE seats, and Fluoroelastomer O-rings.

Configuration Options

The series supports a wide range of configurations across line sizes from 1/2" to 3", with Cv values ranging from 36.64 gal/min (1/2") up to 1,121.84 gal/min (3"). Actuators are direct-mounted for compact assembly in tight spaces.

Actuator Types

  • Hand Operated: Manual control with handle and cover options.
  • Pneumatic Double Acting (DA Series): Uses air supply to drive the valve open and closed via two ports. Supply pressure ranges from 40 to 115 psi (2.7 to 7.9 bar).
  • Pneumatic Spring Return (SR Series): Air opens the valve; internal springs return it to a fail-safe position. Standard supply is 80 psi (5.5 bar), with options for spring set changes.
  • NEMA 4X Electric Actuators (TD/MD Series): Weatherproof housing rated NEMA 4X (IP67). TD models are two-position; MD models accept a 4 to 20 mA modulating input. Cycle times vary by model size, from 4 seconds for TD01 up to 30 seconds for larger units.
  • Explosion-Proof Electric Actuators (TI/MI Series): Rated NEMA 7 for hazardous locations: Class I, Group C & D; Class II, Group E, F & G; Division I & II. Available in two-position and modulating configurations with a 4 to 20 mA input.

Power Supply Options

Electric actuators support 110 VAC, 220 VAC, 24 VAC, or 24 VDC. Note that MD models are not available in 24 VDC configurations.

Key Product Differences

The Series WE04 distinguishes between actuator families based on enclosure ratings and control logic:

  • TD/MD vs. TI/MI Electric Actuators: The TD (Two-Position) and MD (Modulating) series feature NEMA 4X (IP67) weatherproof enclosures suitable for general industrial environments. In contrast, the TI and MI series are designed with NEMA 7 explosion-proof housings specifically for hazardous locations.
  • Pneumatic Actuation Logic: Double-acting pneumatic actuators require air pressure to move in both directions (open/close). Spring-return actuators utilize a single air supply line to open the valve, relying on internal spring assemblies to return the valve to the closed position upon loss of signal.
  • Solenoid Integration: Pneumatic configurations can include an SN solenoid valve option to electrically switch air pressure between ports for automated opening and closing. Solenoids are available in NEMA 4X NAMUR styles with various voltage options (24 VAC, 110 VAC, etc.).

Optional accessories include an optional brake, heater & thermostat, lights for remote position indication, air regulators (R2-2120), and volume boosters (VB-01).
