Supported Applications

The Dwyer Series 9 and P Special Application Thermocouples and RTDs are engineered for specialized temperature measurement tasks. The series covers FEP covered thermocouples and RTDs, ring type sensors for surface measurement, web type thermocouples designed for moving objects such as rollers, and penetration thermocouples with sharp tips.

Penetration types are specified for measuring viscous liquids and semisolids including plastic compounds, rubber, and slightly frozen food products. Ring configurations address surface temperature requirements on stationary or rotating components.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series supports multiple sensor technologies: Type J, K, E, and T thermocouples; 6 (RTD DIN), 4 (RTD NIST), and Z (RTD DIN 1K) resistance temperature detectors. Extension insulation options define the thermal limits of specific configurations:

• Fiberglass insulation rated to 842°F/450°C
• FEP insulation rated to 392°F/200°C
• Options include fiberglass or FEP with stainless steel flex hose, overbraid, or coated flex hose.

For Series P penetration probes, the maximum dimension A* is limited to 12" (30 cm). Sensor outer diameters for hypodermic styles are available in 0.134 O.D. and 0.180 O.D.

The series offers extensive configurability across sensor type, hardware style, extension insulation, terminals, junction types, and probe dimensions.

Sensor Types & Hardware (Series 9)

• Sensors: J: T/C, K: T/C, E: T/C, T: T/C; RTD DIN (6), RTD NIST (4), RTD DIN 1K (Z).
• Hardware Types: Bead junction with FEP coating (5); Ring #10 (0.196" ID) (6); Ring #8 (0.144" ID) (7); Ring 3/8" (0.390" ID) (8); Web (9).
• Extension Types: None; Fiberglass insulation with SS flex hose or overbraid; FEP insulation with SS overbraid or FEP coated flex hose.

Sensor Terminals & Junctions (Series 9)

• Terminals: None, Lugs, Lugs with BX, Standard plug/jack, Mini plug/jack, Fastabs, Fastabs with BX.
• Junction Types: T/C; 2-wire RTD (Class B/A); 3-wire RTD (Class B/A).

Probe Styles & Dimensions (Series P)

• Sensor Types: J: T/C, T: T/C; RTD DIN (6), RTD NIST (4), RTD DIN 1K (Z).
• Probe Styles: Transition fitting SS, Straight handle SS, Saber handle SS, Flanged handle SS, Euro style FEP, Euro style SS.
• Junction Types: Grounded or Ungrounded.

Key Product Differences

The Series 9 and P lines differ primarily in their mechanical configuration for specific mounting needs. Series 9 focuses on FEP covered, ring, and web styles with configurable extension lengths (B) and terminal types (C). Series P is dedicated to penetration probes with sharp tips. Its model number guide follows the format: P <SENSOR TYPE> <PROBE STYLE> - <A* IN 1/10 INCH> - <B IN INCHES> - <C IN INCHES>. Series P offers specific hypodermic outer diameters (7: 0.134 O.D., 8: 0.180 O.D.) and probe styles including transition fittings, straight/saber/flanged handles in stainless steel, or Euro style options.
