Supported Applications
The Dwyer Series WE05 is a 3-piece socket weld stainless steel ball valve designed for gas or liquid flow control, offering bubble-tight shut-off. The series incorporates a full port design to provide ideal flow rates with minimal pressure drop. Actuators are directly mounted to create a compact assembly suitable for tight spaces. Limit switches can be mounted directly to the valves to allow for remote position indication.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The Series WE05 valve body is rated for compatible liquids and gases with pressure limits from 20" Hg to 1000 psi (-0.7 to 69 bar) up to 250°F. The process temperature range spans -20 to 392°F (-29 to 200°C). Wetted materials include a body and ball of 316 SS (CF8M), a stem of 316 SS, seats of RTFE/PTFE, and seals, washers, and packing of PTFE. The valve features a blowout-proof stem for added safety.
Actuator operating conditions vary by type:
- Pneumatic (DA & SR Series): Ambient temperature limits are -40 to 176°F (-40 to 80°C). Normal supply pressure is 40 to 115 psi (2.7 to 7.9 bar) for double acting and 80 psi (5.5 bar) for spring return, with a maximum of 120 psi (8.6 bar).
- Electric NEMA 4X (TD & MD Series): Ambient temperature limits are -22 to 140°F (-30 to 60°C). Power requirements include 110 VAC, 220 VAC, 24 VAC, or 24 VDC.
- Electric NEMA 7 (TI & MI Series): Ambient temperature limits are -40 to 140°F (-40 to 60°C). These units meet hazardous location requirements for Class I, Group C & D; Class II, Group E, F & G; Division I & II.
Configuration Options
The Series WE05 is configurable with hand operation or automated actuation. Line sizes range from 1/2 to 3" NPT socket weld connections. The series supports the following configuration options:
- Pneumatic Actuators: Available as Double Acting (DA) or Spring Return (SR). DA models use air supply for both opening and closing, while SR models use air to open with internally loaded springs returning the valve closed. Air connections are 1/8" female NPT (DA01) or 1/4" female NPT (DA02–DA05, SR02–SR07). Housing material is anodized aluminum body and epoxy coated aluminum end caps.
- Electric Actuators: Available in weatherproof (NEMA 4X/IP67) or explosion-proof (NEMA 7) enclosures. Two-position models drive the valve open or closed using supply voltage, while modulating actuators accept a 4-20 mA input for positioning. Standard features include manual override and position indicators; TD models come with two limit switches.
- Accessories: Options include SV3 solenoid valves to electrically switch air supply pressure, R2-2120 air regulators, AFR4 air filter regulators (0 to 120 psi), and VB-01 volume boosters. Pneumatic actuators feature NAMUR standard accessory mounting.
Key Product Differences
The series distinguishes between actuator families based on power source, enclosure rating, and control method:
- Pneumatic DA vs. SR: The Double Acting (DA) series requires air supply for both directions of travel, whereas the Spring Return (SR) series utilizes springs to return the valve to a closed position upon loss of air.
- NEMA 4X vs. NEMA 7 Electric: TD and MD electric actuators feature an enclosure rating of NEMA 4X (IP67). TI and MI electric actuators carry a NEMA 7 rating designed for hazardous locations.
- Two-Position vs. Modulating Control: Two-position models operate the valve to fully open or closed states based on voltage supply. Modulating models accept a 4-20 mA input signal to position the valve at intermediate points between fully open and closed.
