Supported Applications

The PCC-SMD connector from Omega is designed for bringing thermocouple, RTD, and thermistor probes to high volume production printed circuit boards. It is a surface mount device (SMD) that solders directly to PCBs, making it well suited to automated, high-throughput assembly lines.

The connector features built-in cold junction compensation and a flat bottom design for superior thermal coupling to the board. A patent-pending asymmetric design prevents backward insertion, which helps protect signal polarity during manufacturing. As a miniature 2-pin thermocouple connector that is also suitable for RTDs and thermistors, it lets a single footprint serve several sensor types by using one contact per pin.

For three-wire sensors, using 3 connector clips allows 3-wire RTDs to be brought to the board with an MTP-*-M connector, extending the connector to more demanding temperature-sensing designs.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The PCC-SMD is rated for an operating ambient temperature of -50 to 120°C. The housing is made of Nickel-plated Beryllium Copper, and the connectors are RoHS compliant.

The land pattern uses a pad footprint of 13.21 mm width by 11.94 mm length, with a through-hole slot of 7.92 mm width by 11.94 mm length. The recommended solder paste profile is 6.45 mm wide and 2.15 mm high, supporting reliable reflow soldering. The flat bottom design promotes even thermal coupling once the part is soldered in place.

Configuration Options

All three models are the same physical connector and share every electrical, thermal, and mechanical characteristic; they differ only in how they are packaged for production use.

The PCC-SMD-20 is supplied as a strip of 20 pcs, which suits prototyping and low-volume builds. The PCC-SMD-500 and PCC-SMD-1000 are supplied on a 13" tape-and-reel for automated pick-and-place, with the difference being reel quantity: 500 pcs versus 1000 pcs per reel. Higher-count reels reduce reel changes on high volume lines.

The series is offered in three packaging options, selected by the quantity suffix in the model number:
