Supported Applications
The Omega OM-SGD Series comprises smart graphics process meters featuring color TFT displays designed for panel mounting. These devices accept voltage or current inputs to monitor and display process variables with customizable graphical interfaces. Users configure the meter via wizard-based software compatible with Windows® XP (SP3), Vista, 7, and 8, selecting from over 40 standard display configurations. The configuration allows customization of colors, text labels, input scaling, and units before uploading settings to the unit through a USB interface.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series operates within an ambient temperature range of 0 to 40°C (32 to 104°F). Voltage input models accept two independent channels programmable from eight available ranges: 0 to 1.25 V, 0 to 2.5 V, 0 to 4 V, 0 to 5 V, 0 to 8 V, 0 to 10 V, 0 to 20 V, and 0 to 40 V. These inputs are single-ended with a shared common ground. Current input models support typical operation at 4 to 20 mA, with a minimum of 0 mA and maximum of 50 mA; loop voltage drop for these models is typically 0.4 to 2.0V (min 0V, max 5.0V).
Performance specifications include an accuracy of 0.05% typical and 0.1% max, with linearity within ±1 count max depending on user calibration settings. The display resolution varies by range from 0.3 mV to 9.8 mV for voltage inputs. The sample rate is a maximum of 3 samples/sec.
Configuration Options
The OM-SGD Series offers configurable dimensions, input types, and environmental protection levels across its model lineup:
- Display Sizes: Available in 2.4", 2.8", and 3.5" color TFT screens with a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels (16-bit color).
- Housing & Enclosure: Standard models feature panel mounting clips. Waterproof variants (OM-SGD-24-M-IP, OM-SGD-24-M-IP420) include a NEMA 6 (IP67) rating and a 32 mm mounting nut.
- Input Types: Models are designated for Voltage input (-M suffix) or Current input (-420 suffix).
- Outputs: All models provide 2 open-collector outputs capable of sinking up to 10 mA max each.
- Power Supply: Operates on 4 to 30 Vdc from an external supply or via USB connection (compatible with USB 1.0 and 2.0).
Dimensions vary by model: the OM-SGD-24-M series measures 76.5 x 46.5 x 38.0 mm (3.01 x 1.8 x 1.5 in), while waterproof versions measure 85.8 x 62.7 x 40.0 mm (3.4 x 2.5 x 1.6 in). The OM-SGD-28-M series measures 89.5 x 56.8 x 43.2 mm (3.5 x 2.2 x 1.7 in), and the OM-SGD-35-M series measures 96.0 x 78.5 x 52.7 mm (3.8 x 3.1 x 2.1 in).
Key Product Differences
The series distinguishes between standard and waterproof housings, as well as voltage versus current input capabilities:
- Voltage Input Models (OM-SGD-XX-M): Accept 0 to 40 V ranges. Electrical connections utilize screw terminals.
- Current Input Models (OM-SGD-XX-M-420): Optimized for 4 to 20 mA signals with a loop voltage drop of up to 5.0V max. Connections use screw terminals except on waterproof variants.
- Waterproof Variants (-IP Suffix): Models OM-SGD-24-M-IP and OM-SGD-24-M-IP420 feature a NEMA 6 (IP67) enclosure with a 12-way connection instead of screw terminals. These models include the mounting nut for panel installation.
- Thermocouple Compatibility: The optional OM-SGD-ADPT-TC module enables Type J, K, or T thermocouple measurement but is not compatible with waterproof models (OM-SGD-24-M-IP and OM-SGD-24-M-IP420).
Accessories include the right-angle waterproof connector cable (OM-CABLE-IP-12W-RA, 2 m length) for IP-rated units and a USB interface cable (OM-CABLE-USB-A-MF, 0.45 m type A to mini B) required for programming.

Great product at a great price!
I was looking for a "large", low-cost panel display to show data from some VFD's, which have a 4-20ma output. Most of the displays I was able to find were small (1"x2" or smaller) and not very configurable or bright.
The SGD series displays are large, bright, and highly configurable through the free software application. Colors, text, display style, and alarm outputs are all available. Using the supplied template and panel mounting hardware, installation on the panel front was a snap for our electrical contractor.
We are extremely pleased and will purchase these digital panel meters wherever we need to locally display analog data.

Programming issues
Honestly, I really like the meter, BUT, the panelpilot system used to program these has left me in a sticky situation. I purchased a few of the OM-SGD-24-M meters along with the OM-SGD-ADPT-TC modules to allow me to monitor temp on our UV ovens. I was able to program these without any issue using panelpilot version 2.23. The next order of meters I ordered would not program, and I was instructed to update version 2.23 to version 2.27. After the update was complete I still was unable to program these meters. This has caused me to not be able to install any of the new system I have been working on during our July 4 shutdown, and have to postpone the installation of this system 6 months till Christmas shutdown. I realize that Omega's hands, but I would not recommend buying any of these meters until they can get this issue resolved.

On the "All models" tab of the product page, the product table identifies models SGD-28-M-420 and SGD-35-M-420 as being IP67 rated, but the datasheet does not show those models among the IP rated options. Are those models really IP rated?
Thank you for your question. We apologize for the confusion. Please refer to data sheet for IP rated units.

is there a wiring diagram for the black connectors?
The wiring is in the manual its very straight forward

When I first powered this unit up to program it (with a usb cable) it turned on and displayed the factory default. I tried to load an existing program into it and it locked up my computer. When I try to power up the meter the screen is blank.

Can I use multiple OM-SGD units, each connected to a separate output from a PLC, powered from the same 24V power supply? The manual's Power restriction for "two displays in same installation" might mean this, or it might mean 2 displays wired in series.
The manual means for two displays wired in series

Can you provide specifics about the mating 12-way connector for the IP67 rated models? I see that you sell a 2 meter cable that includes the connector, but I'm planning to build a harness to connect multiple displays.

1) Can I use this meter in series with a sensor? I ask because I wonder if the supply voltage ground can float relative to the current loop? 2) The software mentions Windows XP/7/8. Does it also work on Windows 10?
Yes, it should be in series. Power supply to meter must be fully floating(isolated from the 4-20mA current loop).
Software is compatible with Windows 10.
