Supported Applications

The Omega HTWT Series consists of flexible silicone rubber heating tapes designed for freeze protection and low-temperature process control. These units feature a built-in thermostat pre-set at 60°F (16°C) to maintain surface temperature without external controllers.

 • Freeze protection
 • Low-temperature process control on electrically conductive surfaces

The series utilizes a patented grounded heating element and is noted for moisture and chemical resistance. The product overview states the units are suitable for electrically conductive surfaces.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The HTWT Series operates with a maximum exposure temperature of 450°F (232°C). All heating tapes in this series maintain a uniform width of 1" (25.4 mm) and are constructed with an extruded silicone rubber outer sheath over polyimide film wrapped fiberglass, knit and braided.

Power density is rated at nominal watts per square inch: 6.0 Watts/in² (or 0.009 Watts/mm²). The series supports operation on either 120 or 240 Vac power supplies. Electrical connections vary by voltage model:

 • 120V models: Include a 6ft (1.8 m) power cord with a plug.
 • 240V models: Feature stripped lead ends for field wiring.

The built-in controlling thermostat is set at 60°F (16°C). The series carries CE certification and includes a 1-year warranty. Manufacturing facilities hold ISO 9001 Certification (Stamford, CT) and ISO 9002 Certification (Manchester, UK).

Selection by Length and Wattage

The following lengths are available across the series, with wattage scaling proportionally:

 • 24" length: 104 Watts (HTWT101-002-60F)
 • 48" length: 209 Watts
 • 72" length: 313 Watts
 • 96" length: 418 Watts
 • 120" length: 522 Watts (Maximum power for the series)

Configuration Options

The HTWT Series is configured by voltage and length. The model number guide follows the format HTWT<series>-<length>-60F, where the series code indicates voltage compatibility:

 • HTWT101: 120 Vac models (e.g., HTWT101-004-60F)
 • HTWT102: 240 Vac models (e.g., HTWT102-004-60F)

All variants share the same physical dimensions and thermostat setting. The series does not offer adjustable temperature settings; the control is fixed at 60°F (16°C). No options for custom lengths, voltages outside of 120/240 Vac, or alternative sheath materials are documented in this bundle.

Installation and Safety Constraints

The following operational constraints apply to the HTWT Series:

 • Surface Contact: The thermostat must be placed tightly and directly against the surface to be heated; air gaps can cause hot spots.
 • Liquid Immersion: Do not immerse heater in liquid.
 • Mechanical Stress: Do not crush, wrap over itself, or apply severe physical stress. Keep sharp metal objects away from the heater.
 • Hazardous Materials: Keep volatile or combustible material away when in use.
 • Electrical Safety: End-users must provide a suitable disconnecting device and an over-protection device (ground fault circuit breaker recommended). All wiring must follow local codes and NEC Article 427.

Note: The series is not for export to Canada. Warranty is void if used in nuclear installations, medical applications, or on humans.

Key Product Differences

The primary distinction between HTWT101 and HTWT102 models is the input voltage rating (120 Vac vs. 240 Vac) and the resulting electrical termination method:

 • HTWT101 Models: Designed for 120 Vac operation, supplied with a pre-attached NEMA plug on a 6ft cord.
 • HTWT102 Models: Designed for 240 Vac operation, supplied with stripped lead ends requiring field connection. Note that the HTWT102 series is not available in the 24" length variant; it begins at 48" (e.g., HTWT102-004-60F).

So the thermostat is set @ 60F, can that be adjusted? It gives a max temp output so I am leaning toward yes but I wanted to confirm.

Asked by: NJARO
Thank you for your inquiry. The maximum temperature is FIXED at 60°F.

Is there a limit for how long this can be plugged in? I want to keep an exposed water line from freezing during the winter months and ideally would like to be able to plug this in for possibly up to a month at a time.

Asked by: Chillme27
Thank you for the inquiry. The HTWT heater is not recommended for this application due the extreme ambient temperature changes encountered. Please contact us for alternate heat tracing solutions available for freeze protection. Best regards OMEGA

Can I wrap this around a Diesel Exhaust Fluid tank, perhaps with a thermal blanket over the top, on a truck to prevent freezing while parked overnight? We experience -30F in winter months and those DEF systems freeze solid overnight.

Asked by: Nat07
Thanks for your inquiry. Though not required, insulation over the heat tape can be used.
