Supported Applications

The Omega PR-20 Short RTD Probe series provides compact temperature sensing for applications with space restrictions. These general-purpose sensors are designed for most liquid and air applications, featuring a direct transition from the probe to lead wires without an intermediate transition range.

 • Liquid and air monitoring
 • Space-constrained installations requiring short insertion lengths

Operating Conditions & Performance

The PR-20 series utilizes high-accuracy 100 Ω Class 'A' DIN Platinum elements per IEC751 (alpha = 0.00385 Ω/Ω/°C). Measurement ranges depend on the selected lead wire insulation material:

 • -50 to 260°C (-58 to 500°F) for PFA insulation
 • -50 to 450°C (-58 to 842°F) for fiberglass insulation

The probe features a compact design with an insertion length of 2 inches. The epoxied end should not be immersed directly into liquid.

Configuration Options

The series supports multiple configurations across sensor construction, dimensions, and termination options:

 • Sensor Construction: Available in 2-, 3-, or 4-wire constructions. Note that 4-wire constructions are not available in 1/4" diameters.
 • Diameters: Probe stem sizes of 1/8, 3/16, or 1/4 inch.
 • Lead Wire: Standard length is 1 m (40") using #26 AWS stranded nickel-plated copper. Insulation options include PFA or fiberglass.
 • Terminations: Options include LUG, OTP, and MTP connectors available as accessories.

Key Product Differences

The PR-20 series model number follows the format: PR-20-2-100-<DIAMETER>-<WIRE_COUNT>-<INSULATION>-<TERMINATION>. Specific variations include:

 • Diameter Selection: 1/8, 3/16, or 1/4 inch probe diameters.
 • Wire Count: The model number digit for wire count changes from "2" to "3" for 4-wire configurations (additional price applies).
 • Insulation Type: Designated by suffix letters; 'E' indicates PFA insulation, while 'G' indicates fiberglass insulation.
 • Custom Lengths: For lead wires longer than 40", add "(-desired length in inches)" to the model number for additional price.

Accessories include compression fittings (SSLK series) compatible with 1/8, 3/16, and 1/4 inch probes featuring 1/8 or 1/4 male NPT connections. The DPI32 1/32 DIN panel meter is also listed as a supporting accessory.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rugged and Dependable I searched long and hard to find an RTD that would work in an extremely hot and high vibration environment. Omega was able to customize an RTD configuration from existing part numbers and shipped it ASAP. This RTD was 1/3rd the cost of what I was paying from the OEM's inferior offering. Omega offered excellent tech support to get my project going. Highly recommend.

What's the respnse time, or sampling time for this probe?

Asked by: Sunhao
The response times for the PR-20 series will vary with the diameter of the probe. An 1/8" diameter would have a response time of approximately 4.3 seconds to 90% of final reading. A 3/16" would be approximately 8.9 seconds to 90% of the final reading and a 1/4" diameter would be approximately 12.6 seconds to 90% of the final reading.
