Supported Applications

The Dwyer Series IEF Insertion Electromagnetic Flow Transmitter is designed to measure fluid velocity in conductive liquids, including clean or dirty non-coating media with conductivity greater than 20 microsiemens. The series supports applications such as boiler feed water, chilled water, condenser water, irrigation, process and coolant flow, groundwater remediation, chemical processing, pump protection, wastewater, and mining.

Units are adjustable to fit pipe sizes from 100 mm to 900 mm (4 in to 36 in) across most popular plastic and metal pipes, including carbon steel, stainless steel, copper, UPVC/PVDF, galvanized steel, mild steel, and brass. Installation requires straight run lengths of greater than 10 pipe diameters upstream and greater than 5 downstream.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The Series IEF operates within an ambient temperature range of -29 °C to 71 °C (-20 °F to 160 °F) and a process temperature range of -9 °C to 121 °C (15 °F to 250 °F). Storage temperatures are rated from -40 °C to 85 °C (-40 °F to 185 °F), with humidity tolerance up to 100%.

Performance specifications vary by accuracy class and pipe size:

• Standard Accuracy Units (Codes L, G, S): ±1 % FS for pipes from 4 in to 36 in (100 mm to 900 mm).
• High Accuracy Units (Codes F, I, E, T, H): ±1 % of reading from 0.6 m/s to 6 m/s (2 ft/s to 20 ft/s); ±0.006 m/s (±0.02 ft/s) at velocities below 0.6 m/s.
• Measurement Range: Standard range is 0 m/s to 3 m/s (0 ft/s to 10 ft/s), with options available up to 6 m/s (20 ft/s).

The transmitter maintains a pressure rating of 27.6 bar (400 psi) @ 37.8 °C (100 °F). Pressure drop is less than 0.006 bar (0.1 psi) at 3.7 m/s (12 ft/s) in pipes 100 mm (4 in) and larger.

Configuration Options

The Series IEF offers configurable options for process connections, electrical housing connectors, output signals, displays, and communication protocols to accommodate diverse installation requirements.

Process Connections & Wetted Materials

• Process Connection: 1 in NPT (Code N) or 1 in BSPT (Code B). Accessory full port isolation valves are available in brass (A-IEF-VLV-BR) and 316 SS (A-IEF-VLV-SS).
• Wetted Materials: Body shaft/fitting: 316 SS; Electrodes: 316 SS; Electrode cap: Polymer/polystyrene; O-ring: Silicone.

Housing & Electrical Connections

• Enclosure Ratings: NEMA 6P (IP68) for non-display models; NEMA 4X (IP66) for -LCD option models. Housing material is powder coated die cast aluminum.
• Electrical Connectors: Model selectable options include 1/2 in female NPT conduit connection without cable (-CND), PG 16 gland without cable (-PG), or PG 16 gland with (2) 3 m (10 ft) plenum rated cables (-10). Additional accessory cable lengths up to 61 m (200 ft) are optional.

Outputs & Communication

• Analog Outputs: Display selectable 4 mA to 20 mA, 0 V to 5 V, 0 V to 10 V, or 2 V to 10 V.
• Pulse/Frequency Output: 0 V to 15 V peak pulse, 0 Hz to 500 Hz, or scalable pulse output (display selectable).
• Alarm Outputs: Two isolated solid state outputs for empty pipe detection or minimum/maximum velocity; one reverse flow indication.
• Communication (-COM Option): Selectable BACnet MS/TP or Modbus® RTU over 2-wire RS-485. Supported baud rates include 9600, 19200, 38400, 57600, 76800, and 115200 bps.

Power & Display

• Power Supply: 12 Vdc to 42.4 Vdc or 12 Vac to 36 Vac, 1 A.
• Display (-LCD Option): Integral graphic LCD with backlight (5.08 cm x 5.08 cm / 2 in x 2 in). The remote display option (A-IEF-DSP) allows for configuration adjustments and saving settings to a computer.

Key Product Differences

The Series IEF model number structure defines specific accuracy, connection, and feature configurations:

• Accuracy Codes: -L (Standard 4-10 in), -G (Standard >10-36 in), -S (Standard 4-36 in); High Accuracy codes include -F (4 in), -I (6 in), -E (8 in), -T (10 in), and -H (4-10 in).
• Process Connection Codes: N for 1 in male NPT; B for 1 in male BSPT.
• Electrical Connector Codes: CND, PG, or 10 as defined above. Additional options include LFMC (Liquid-Tight Flexible Metal Conduit Fitting) and NCH (Female NPT Conduit Hub).
• Option Codes: -LCD for integral display; -COM for BACnet/Modbus communication; -NIST for six-point traceable calibration certificate; -FC for factory calibration at 0.5% of reading single point; -CC for custom configuration.

Note: For maximum flowrates greater than 10 ft/s (3 m/s), the -CC option is required. The standard 3-in-1 plane max flowrate is limited to 3 m/s (10 ft/s).
