Supported Applications

The Omega SRL self-regulating heating cable series provides safe, reliable heat tracing for freeze protection of pipes, valves, tanks, and similar applications. The product overview identifies use in Div. 2 hazardous environments as well as certain corrosive industrial environments.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The SRL series maintains a maximum process temperature rating of 150°F (65°C). Power supply options include 120 and 208-277 Volts. The cable construction features an approximate size of 3/8" x 1/8" with industrial grade 16 AWG buss wire, a tinned copper braid, and a water-resistant polyolefin jacket.

Performance varies by model output rating (W/Ft.) and start-up temperature. Maximum circuit lengths are defined for specific breaker sizes ranging from 10 A to 40 A at start-up temperatures of 50°F, 0°F, and -20°F. For example, the SRL3-1C model supports a maximum length of 360 Ft. with a 10 A circuit breaker at 50°F start-up.

Approvals include UL Listed for ordinary areas and fire protection system piping, CSA Certified for ordinary areas, and FM approved for hazardous (classified) areas when used with Chromalox accessories.

Configuration Options

The series supports multiple output ratings, voltages, braid types, and overcoat options to address specific installation needs. The model number guide follows the format: SRL - <Output (watts)> - <Voltage> - <Braid> - <Overcoat Options>

  • Output Ratings: 3, 5, 8, and 10 Watts per Foot.
  • Voltage Codes: Code "1" for 120 Volts; Code "2" for 208-277 Volts.
  • Braid Options: Standard tinned-copper metallic braid (Code C) provides a ground path.
  • Overcoat Options: Fluoropolymer corrosion resistant overjacket (Code T) for hostile/corrosive environments; TPR overjacket (Code R) for protection against certain inorganic chemical solutions.

Cable allowances are specified for components including flange pairs, pipe supports, butterfly valves, ball valves, globe valves, and gate valves. Accessories available include thermostats (RTAS air-sensing, RTBC pipewall-sensing), power connection sets (RTPC), splice kits (RTST), end seal kits (RTES), pipe straps (PS-1, PS-3, PS-10), fiberglass tape (FT-2), aluminum tape (AT-1), and caution labels (CL-1).

Key Product Differences

Variants within the SRL series differ by output wattage per foot, nominal voltage rating, and overcoat material. Models ending in "C" feature a standard tinned-copper metallic braid without an additional overjacket. Models with suffixes "CR" include a TPR overjacket for protection against certain inorganic chemical solutions, while models with suffixes "CT" incorporate a fluoropolymer corrosion resistant overjacket designed for hostile or corrosive environments.

Output wattage at alternate voltages (208 V, 220 V, and 277 V) results in percentage changes to the nominal output. For instance, SRL3 models show a -20% change at 208 Volts and a +15% change at 277 Volts compared to their rated voltage.

Do the heating cables such as SRM/E10-1CT come ready to plug in to an electrical supply?

Asked by: Dennis 2020
Thank you for your inquiry. Our heating cabled require termination and sealing in order to be used. Furthermore, a temperature controller or switch is highly recommended to regulate the cable's temperature.
