The Omega OMPBD7 series comprises heavy-duty, oil-tight pilot devices designed for demanding industrial environments. The line includes selector switches configured as 2-way, 3-way, and 4-way units, alongside pushbuttons. These devices are engineered to withstand submersion, oil, and dirt exposure while providing reliable control interface functionality.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series operates within an ambient temperature range of -25 to 70°C (-13 to 158°F) with short-term storage capability from -40 to 85°C (-40 to 185°F). Humidity tolerance is rated at 50 to 95% RH from 25 to 60°C (77 to 140°F) per Procedure IV of MIL-STD-810C, Method 507.1 cycling test.

Protection ratings vary by operator material: plastic operators achieve IP66 and NEMA 4/4X/13, while metal operators are rated IP66 (submersion, oil, dirt) with UL Type 3/3R/4/12/13. The series withstands vibration at 10 to 2000 Hz with a maximum displacement of 1.52 mm (peak-to-peak) and shock loads up to 100 G for an 11 ms duration.

Electrical performance includes a thermal current rating of 10 A max enclosed at 40°C ambient per UL 508 and EN 60947-5-1. Standard contact blocks are rated for AC15, DC13 to EN 60947-5-1 and UL 508 with a minimum of 17 V, 5 mA; low voltage contacts support applications below this threshold (C300, R150). Mechanical durability is specified at 10,000,000 cycles per EN 60947-5-1 Annex C.

Configuration Options

The OMPBD7 series offers extensive configuration options across operator types, switch functions, and electrical interfaces. The model number structure follows the format: OMPBD7 - <OPERATOR TYPE> - <SWITCH TYPE> - <KNOB TYPE> - <RETURN TYPE> - <CONTACT BLOCK> - <LEGEND>.

Housing and Operator Types

• OMPBD7P: High-grade thermoplastics with a captive black plastic front bezel.
• OMPBD7M: Die-cast zinc housing with corrosion-resistant chrome plating and a captive shiny metal bezel.

Switch Configurations

• 2-Way Selector Switches: Available with standard or long knobs, maintained position, spring return from left/right, or keyed operation (e.g., OMPD7M-HL22P).
• 3-Way Selector Switches: Offered in maintained and spring-return variants including center-off configurations.
• 4-Way Selector Switches: Configured with specific contact blocks such as NCEB or NO (e.g., OMPD7M-HM42PX01B).

Contact Blocks and Electrical Connections

The series supports up to six snap-on, interchangeable back-of-panel components. Contact block types include:

• NC (X01), NO (X10)
• NCLB late break (X01L), NOEM early make (X10E)
• NCEB early break (X01B) — used only with 4-way switches
• Low voltage variants: NC low voltage (X01V), NO low voltage (X10V)

Electrical connections utilize screw terminals (IP20 recessed) or spring-clamp terminals. Wire capacity ranges from #18 to 12 AWG (0.75 to 2.5 mm²) for screw terminals and #18 to 14 AWG (0.75 to 1.5 mm²) for spring-clamp terminals.

Legends and Accessories

Black legends with white letters are available in configurations such as OFF-ON, REV-FOR, START-STOP, MAN-AUTO, HAND-AUTO, JOG-RUN, OPEN-CLOSE, UP-DOWN, FOR-O-REV, and HAND-O-AUTO. Additional accessories include a 22.5 mm hole plug (OMPD7-N2) and mounting ring wrenches for plastic or metal operators (OMPD7-AW2).

Approvals

The series carries UL Recognized status for front elements and UL Approved assemblies, meeting standards including UL 46E, NEMA A600, Q600, CE, RoHS, CSA, and SR.

Plastic operators (OMPBD7P) feature a lower profile with high-grade thermoplastics, while metal operators (OMPBD7M) utilize die-cast zinc with chrome plating for enhanced corrosion resistance. Mounting torque requirements differ between the two: 1.7 N·m (15 lb-in.) for plastic and 4.4 N·m (40 lb-in.) for metal.

Specific contact block options are tied to switch configurations; for instance, the NCEB early break contact block is designated exclusively for use with 4-way switches. Low voltage contact blocks are recommended specifically for applications below 17 V and 5 mA.
