Supported Applications

The Omega FTB-400A Series Sanitary Turbine Flowmeters are designed for the measurement of process liquids where high sanitary standards are required. The series is compliant with the ASME Bioprocessing Equipment Standard BPE-2019 and features a turbine rotor assembly supported by self-lubricated ceramic ball bearings. These flowmeters generate an electrical pulse for each rotor blade passing a magnetic pickup coil, providing volumetric flow rate measurement suitable for Cleaning Out Of Place (COP) applications.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The FTB-400A Series operates within a process temperature range of -268 to 232°C (-450 to 450°F). Accuracy is specified as ±0.5% of reading or better over the linear flow range, with repeatability of ±0.1% of reading or better. The signal output provides 10 mV rms or greater into a 10 kΩ load at minimum flowrate. Operating pressure is limited by the Tri-Grip® fitting.

Configuration Options

The series includes 11 sizes ranging from ¼" to 3", covering linear water flow rates from 0.35 to 650 US GPM (1.32 to 2460 LPM). All models utilize Tri-Clamp™ fittings and are constructed with a 32 micro inch finish.

Materials of construction include:

  • Housing: 316/316L Dual Rated Stainless Steel
  • Rotor: 17.4 PH SS (or 17-4 PH SS)
  • Retaining Ring: 15.7 MO PH SS (or 15-7 MO PH SS)
  • Bearings: Hard Carbon Composite

The series supports the following options and accessories:

  • Strainers/Filters
  • Flow Straighteners and Installation Kits
  • Digital flow indicators including DPF701, DPF402, DPF70 with FLSC-AMP, DPF10, FC20, 21, and 22 (visit OMEGA for compatibility)

Each unit comes complete with an operator's manual and a 10-point NIST calibration certificate. The series carries CE and RoHS certifications.

Key Product Differences

The FTB-400A Series is available in eleven distinct model numbers (FTB-401A through FTB-411A), differentiated by Tri-Grip™ size, flow meter size, linear flow range, length, nominal K-factor, and weight.

  • Tri-Grip® Size: Models feature 1½", 2", or larger clamp sizes depending on the specific model number (e.g., FTB-409A uses a 2" Tri-Grip™).
  • Flow Meter Size: Internal flow meter diameters range from ¼" to 3".
  • Linear Flow Range: Ranges vary by model, such as 0.35 to 3.5 US GPM for the FTB-401A up to 40 to 650 US GPM for the FTB-411A.
  • Nominal K-Factor: Pulse generation rates vary inversely with size, from 15,000 pulses/gal (FTB-401A) down to 45 pulses/gal (FTB-411A).

Wanting to find out if this is suitable for measuring the flow of liquid R134a refrigerant. Specifically the "Hard carbon composite" bearings. Temperature of the liquid is expected to be between 40F-80F.

Asked by: richp
Thank you for your inquiry. It would be recommended to use the FTB-100 series turbine flow meter that has a wider temperature span and can be calibrated for the liquid in question per the viscosity.

Is the 3-A Sanitary Flow meter available with the RediPulse pickup coil as listed in the manual?

Asked by: JerryWayne
Thank you for your inquiry. The sanitary turbine flow meter will have the magnetic pickup that generates a sinusoidal wave output.

will the sanitary turbine FTB-409A work with HFCS

Asked by: NA22
Thank you for your inquiry about the flow meter. The flow meter is calibrated for water and if HFCS will flow similar to water, ok, yet, the viscosity will change when the temperature changes and you may have to adjust or re-calibrate to account for that viscosity change.
