Supported Applications

The Omega TJ36-XCIB series consists of rugged thermocouple transition joint probes designed for harsh conditions. These sensors utilize Super OMEGACLAD® XL Compacted Mineral Insulation Cable with an Inconel® 600 braid over Nextel® lead wire to provide robust temperature measurement in demanding environments.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series meets or exceeds IEC 584-1 and EN 60584-2 Tolerance Class 1. The transition joint design supports a process temperature up to 815°C (1500°F) for the lead wire, while junction temperatures vary by calibration type:

  • K Type: Up to 1204°C (2200°F)
  • J Type: Up to 721°C (1330°F)
  • T Type: Up to 371°C (700°F)

Upper temperature guidelines for the T/C junction also depend on sheath material and diameter. For example, K CHROMEGA®-ALOMEGA® probes with a Super OMEGACLAD® XL sheath at 4.78 mm (3/16 in) or 6.35 mm (1/4 in) support up to 1204°C (2200°F), whereas the same calibration with a 304 SS sheath supports up to 899°C (1650°F).

Configuration Options

The TJ36-XCIB series is configurable across multiple parameters including sensor type, sheath material, diameter, junction style, and probe length.

  • Sensor Types: K CHROMEGA®-ALOMEGA®, J IRON-CONSTANTAN, T COPPER-CONSTANTAN
  • Sheath Materials: 304 SS, Inconel® 600 (INC 600), Super OMEGACLAD® XL (XL)
  • Diameters: 1.59 mm (1/16 in) to 6.35 mm (1/4 in)
  • Junction Types: Grounded, Ungrounded, Exposed
  • Probe Lengths: Standard overall length is 1000 mm (40 in); stock lengths include 150 mm (6 in), 300 mm (12 in), and 450 mm (18 in)

The standard electrical connection features stripped leads. M8/M12 connectors are available as an option by adding specific codes to the model number.

Key Product Differences

Variants within the series differ primarily by calibration code, sheath material selection, and physical dimensions which dictate maximum operating temperatures. Model numbers follow the format TJ36------CC-XCIB.

Specific configurations include:

  • K Type with 304 SS sheath (1.59 mm): TJ36-CASS-116(*)-(**)-CC-XCIB, rated to 899°C (1650°F)
  • K Type with Inconel® 600 sheath (4.78 mm): TJ36-CAIN-316(*)-(**)-CC-XCIB, rated to 1149°C (2100°F)
  • J Type with 304 SS sheath (6.35 mm): TJ36-ICSS-14(*)-(**)-CC-XCIB, rated to 721°C (1330°F)
  • T Type with 304 SS sheath (4.78 mm): TJ36-CPSS-316(*)-(**)-CC-XCIB, rated to 371°C (700°F)

What pressure are these thermocouples rated for?

Hi, What is the max temperature rating for the wire that connects the probe to the K-type connector? It looks like plastic shielding on the wire and I don't want to melt it.

What length needs to be inserted into the process for an accurate reading with a 6inch probe?

Hi Peter, considering the thermocouple sensor is at the tip of the probe, it would be safe to assume 0.5-1 inch would be needed to get an accurate reading.

Can these be attached to a 2.5mm jack for use with a wireless bbq style type thermometer?

Hello, Can this thermocouple be welded around section B? Also, is it able to withstand pressures to up to 500 psi? Thank you

The B section is where the Thermocouple wire is attached to the extension wire and potted. A tack weld could probably be made with a minimal amount of heat being applied. Omega does not pressure rate the probes but they do get used often in elevated pressures as what your inquiry suggests. If you need a probe with a pressure rating then the only one Omega offers is the pipe plug probe series.

I am looking for 2 stainless steel temperature probes to go into a 55 gallon drum that’s height  is 34 inches. I want to hook it to a controller to manage a heating blanket  to maintain a temperature between 68 to 75°F. What Would you recommend
