Supported Applications
The Omega CL3512A is a digital thermometer and calibrator that functions as two meters in one. It simulates type J, K, T, and E thermocouple signals to check the operation of a thermocouple meter and make rough calibration adjustments. Additionally, it operates as a dual input thermometer for measuring temperature via Type J/K/T/E thermocouples.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The CL3512A supports measurement ranges across four thermocouple types: Type J from -200°C to 1200°C (-328°F to 2192°F), Type K from -200°C to 1372°C (-328°F to 2502°F), Type T from -200°C to 400°C (-328°F to 752°F), and Type E from -200°C to 1000°C (-328°F to 1832°F). Accuracy is specified as ±0.5°C or ±0.5% of reading, whichever is greater.
Resolution options include 0.1°C or 0.1°F when the 0.1° setting is selected, and 1°C or 1°F when the 1° setting is selected. The typical response time (90%) is 1 second. Ambient operating temperature ranges from 0°C to 50°C (32°F to 122°F), with storage temperatures between -20°C to 60°C (-4°F to 140°F). Humidity ratings are 0% to 95% RH, non-condensing.
Configuration Options
The series features a large 3½ digit display with backlighting. Display selections include HOLD mode and unit toggling between °C/°F. The device is powered by a 9V battery.
- Sensor Inputs: T1 and T2 input connectors for dual thermocouple measurement (Types J, K, T, E).
- Output Signal: Simulated thermocouple output via an SMP male connector required for the source mode.
- Housing Dimensions: 195mm (H) x 92mm (W) x 53mm (D).
Available options and accessories include a rubber boot, two K beaded wire thermocouples, a K calibration cable, a 9 volt battery, and an operator's manual.
Key Product Differences
The CL3512A is offered as a single handheld unit combining source (simulation) and measure functions. The device carries CE Mark approval and ISO 9001 Certified (USA) / ISO 9002 Certified (United Kingdom) status.
Operational warnings note that the instrument should not be used with voltages at the measurement surface over 24V AC or DC to avoid electrical shock. Temperature measurements in microwave ovens are prohibited to prevent damage or burns. The product is not designed for patient connected applications.

Nice calibrator for thermocouples
This is the second one we bought and we are very happy with the performance. Two inputs and two outputs - for this price - can't go wrong.

A ‘must have’ instrument
Omega
Thermocouple meter / simulator
The ability to measure temperature with a thermocouple and to generate a simulated thermocouple voltage according to a selected temperature, is extremely valuable when debugging thermocouple applications. This model instrument does so at reasonable cost and with NIST traceable calibration certificate.
PROs:
1. 0.1 degree Celsius display resolution up to 200 C.
2. Simulated TC output is variable with Coarse and Fine adjustment controls on the front panel.
3. Battery life is excellent.
4. Legendary Omega precision and reliability.
CONs:
1. Simulator output range selections overlap. For example, 150C is selectable from 2 different simulator output ranges, both of which require the adjust pots to be near the end of their travel. This makes the adjustment more touchy for certain simulator output temperature settings. This is a very minor issue but a noteworthy characteristic.
Overall this is a ‘must have’ instrument for anyone working with thermocouples in applications ranging from field installations to electronics development labs.

Just what I was looking for!
These little units are very easy to use. For output, the dial allows you to select ranges of output, then simply fine tune the setting with the small dials. Outputs are stable and do not wonder. It also reads T/C with easy, both J and K types. I'm using it as a development similar in my lab. I wish it had a digital interface (serial, USB, etc) to make it easier to collect data. But for the price, I can't complain!

Works fine, good value
Very handy instrument, easy to use for checking out connections and other equipment. Very good specs for the price. We have several of these and they have held up well.

How quick does the temp register on the display?
Hi Stacy,
Thank you for the inquiry. Reading rate is once / second this meter. So within 2 seconds the unit should have steady value for stable input signal.
Best regards,
OMEGA

I am looking for an instrument that let me probe thermocouples type J, we use this in cure ovens and we would like to know if the thermocouple is still reliable or not in order to keep or replace it, could you recommend me an instrument for it
Hi Francisco,
This calibrator can be used to verify a J thermocouple output if you have a stable bath at a known temperature. For more assistance with your thermocouples please forward request to TEMP@DWYEROMEGA.COM.

How quick of a reading response can I expect going from room temperature to -85C? I'm trying to capture cooling cycle that cools down from room temp to -85C in about 4-5 seconds, and so I'm curious to now if this gauge can capture that
Hi Vass,
Update rate is 1/sec which is common with hand held meters. HH911T has 3/sec update. But most of response time will be due to the probe. Recommend to contact us at TEMP@OMEGA.COM for more details.

Can either T1 or T2 be used as an output for simulating a thermocouple to calibrate a device?
Only T1 is used for sourcing Thermocouple signals on the CL3512A calibrator.

Could this be used to calibrate a TJ96-IC310SS-116U-4-SB (WNW0204216) Thermocouple that I purchased from you recently. I did not have the thermocouple calibrated, but I am realizing that to match our our probe readings it is necessary?
Hi NickB,
Thank you for the inquiry. To compare the 2 probes you need a good accurate meter to measure the probe output signal. The CL3512A can do this. You also need a stable bath to hold the probes at constant temperature. A container of ice can provide 0 C point. Hot water bath or block calibrator can provide higher level comparison points;
