Supported Applications

The Omega FL-W Series consists of rugged, economical variable-area flowmeters designed for measuring water flow. These instruments utilize fluid movement to actuate either a swinging vane or piston mechanism, which drives a scale pointer and triggers an optional signal switch.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series covers a measurement range of 0.2 to 90 GPM of water with specific model ranges from 0-1 GPM up to 20-90 GPM depending on the design type. Accuracy is specified as ±5% full scale for piston models and ±2% full scale for vane models, with a repeatability of ±1% of reading.

The series includes a signal switch option configured as a 3-wire SPDT contact (15 A @ 125 VAC). Pressure drop is documented at 2.2 psi for vane models and 2 to 5 psi for piston models, with a deadband of 7% of maximum flow.

Configuration Options

The FL-W Series offers two distinct mechanical designs tailored to different flow capacities: Piston Models (FL-W01 through FL-W20) and Vane Models (FL-W30 through FL-W90). The series supports various FNPT port sizes ranging from ¾" for lower capacity piston models to 2" for higher capacity vane models.

Design Types

• Piston Design: Used in models FL-W01, FL-W02, FL-W05, FL-W10, FL-W15, and FL-W20. Wetted materials include 300 Series SS with Buna and Teflon seals.
• Vane Design: Used in models FL-W30 through FL-W90. Wetted materials include 300 Series SS, Polysulfone, and Brass with EPR or PTFE seals depending on the specific model configuration.

Dimensions

Physical dimensions vary by design type:

• Piston Models: Height 150 mm (5.9 in), Length 109 mm (4.3 in), Width 155 mm (6.1 in); Swing radius is 5 1/16".
• Vane Models: Height 140 mm (5.5 in), Length 229 mm (9 in), Width 140 mm (5.5 in); Swing radius is 5 5/8".

Materials and Construction

The housing material is brass. Wetted parts consist of 300 Series SS, Polysulfone, and Brass. Seals are specified as EPR for vane models (Brass) and PTFE for piston models.

Key Product Differences

Variation within the series is defined by flow capacity range, readout increments, port size, and internal mechanism type. Piston models cover ranges from 0-1 GPM to 0-20 GPM with FNPT ports of ¾". Vane models cover ranges from 0-30 GPM up to 20-90 GPM (specifically FL-W80 is 10-80 GPM and FL-W90 is 20-90 GPM) utilizing 1½" or 2" FNPT ports.

Note on installation: Water hammer and surges can be damaging to these flowmeters. To avoid damage from sudden stops or starts in liquid flow, fluid lines should remain full where possible, pumps brought up slowly, and surge chambers installed.
