Supported Applications
The Dwyer Series SC4 IsoVerter® II modules are signal isolators and converters designed for industrial temperature measurement applications. The series supports thermocouple inputs (Models SC4130/SCL4130) and RTD inputs (Models SC4151/SCL4151), providing linearized, isolated conversion to standard process signals. Additionally, the SC4380/SCL4380 Process Signal Converter/Isolator accepts virtually all standard process signals, including current, voltage, and bipolar signals for general signal conditioning.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series operates within an ambient temperature range of 0° to 50° C (32° to 131° F) with storage capability from -40° to +80° C (-40° to +176° F). Humidity conditions are rated at 0 to 90% rh up to 40°C non-condensing, and 10 to 50% rh at 55°C non-condensing. Electrical isolation is provided at 1500 VAC.
Performance specifications vary by model family:
- Linearity: SC4380/SCL4380 models offer 0.1% linearity; temperature-specific models (SC4130/SC4151) list a drift of ±0.02% per °C typical, ±0.05% maximum.
- Load Resistance: Maximum current output load is 600 ohms; maximum voltage output load is 20mA (500 ohms).
- Input Impedance: Thermocouple inputs present 1 Megohm impedance. RTD search current for SC4151/SCL4151 models is 500μA maximum.
Configuration Options
The Series SC4 offers configurable dimensions and electrical interfaces to accommodate diverse installation requirements while maintaining a standard DIN rail footprint compatible with 35 mm rails (DIN EN50022-35). Overall unit dimensions are 98.5 mm (3.880 in) wide, 75 mm (2.950 in) high, and 22.5 mm (0.886 in) deep, with a DIN rail mounting depth of 35.5 mm (1.40 in). An optional Adapter Bracket for Surface Mounting is available (KIT#: 1007-35DINADPTR).
Power supply options are divided by model prefix:
- SC Models (High Voltage): SC4130, SC4151, and SC4380 operate on 85 to 265 VDC / VAC at 50 to 400 Hz.
- SCL Models (Low Voltage): SCL4130, SCL4151, and SCL4380 operate on 12 to 24 Vdc/Vac at 50 to 400 Hz ±20%.
The series supports multiple output signal configurations:
- Standard Outputs: Configurable for 0 to 10 VDC or 4 to 20 mA on temperature models. SC4380/SCL4380 units support a broader range including -10 to +10 VDC, 0 to 5 VDC, and various current ranges up to 0 to 10000 A.
- Configuration: Units feature factory calibration with field-adjustable zero and span. SC4380/SCL4380 models utilize user-programmable switches for input/output mode selection (unipolar/bipolar, direct/reverse acting) and range scaling.
Key Product Differences
The series is segmented into three primary model families based on measurement technology:
- SC4130 / SCL4130 (Thermocouple): Designed for millivolt inputs from thermocouples. Range codes define specific types and spans, such as Type J (-100 to 200°C), Type K (-150 to 350°F or -100 to 200°C), and Type T (-300 to 250°F).
- SC4151 / SCL4151 (RTD): Designed for ohmic inputs from RTDs. Range codes specify DIN standards with spans including -100 to 200°C, 0 to 100°C, and up to 0 to 1000°F.
- SC4380 / SCL4380 (Process Signal): A general-purpose signal conditioner accepting current or voltage inputs. It supports bipolar signals where the scale runs from minus-selection to plus-selection (e.g., -10 TO +10 VDC). Input programming allows selection of unipolar, bi-polar, zero-based, and zero-suppressed modes via switch banks.
