Supported Applications
The OMEGA OS100E Series miniature infrared transmitters provide non-contact temperature measurement across an industrial range of -18 to 538°C (0 to 1000°F). Each unit pairs a remotely mounted infrared sensor head with a high-performance, microprocessor-based signal conditioner, so the small sensor head can be placed in confined, hard-to-reach places and harsh environments while the transmitter is mounted where it is convenient to wire and read.
Typical uses take advantage of the remote head, the analog and RS232 outputs, and the optional laser sighting:
- Fixed-point process temperature monitoring in tight or hostile locations.
- Integration with meters, chart recorders and PLCs through a choice of analog outputs.
- PC-based configuration and readout over the RS232 interface.
- Targeting assistance using the OS100-LS laser sighting accessory.
This product is not intended for medical use or use on humans. All connections should be made with a shielded cable, 24 AWG stranded wire rated 300V, 105°C (221°F), PVC insulation.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The transmitter measures -18 to 538°C (0 to 1000°F) with an optical field of view of 6:1 (distance to spot size) and a spectral response of 5 to 14 microns. Accuracy, referenced at 22°C (72°F) ambient and emissivity of 0.95 or greater, is ±2% rdg or 2.2°C (4°F), whichever is greater, with repeatability of ±1% rdg. Response time is 100 ms (0 to 63% of final value) and emissivity is adjustable from 0.1 to 1.00.
Power is 12 to 24 Vdc @ 150 mA, with overload protection of 500 mA on the family supply requirement. Minimum load resistance is 1 kΩ for the 0 to 5 Vdc output and 2 kΩ for the 0 to 10 Vdc output.
The housing is NEMA 4 (IP65) die-cast aluminium. Main housing dimensions are 65.5 W x 30.5 D x 115.3 mm L (2.58 x 1.2 x 4.54 inch), the sensor head is 25.4 mm (1 inch) diameter and 63.5 mm (2.5 inch) long, and the unit weighs 272 g (0.6 lb). Operating limits differ by section:
- Main transmitter ambient: 0 to 50°C (32 to 122°F).
- Sensor head: 0 to 70°C (32 to 158°F).
- Sensor head, HT model: 0 to 85°C (32 to 185°F).
- Sensor head with OS100-WC water cooling jacket: 0 to 200°C (32 to 392°F).
Operating relative humidity is less than 95% RH, non-condensing. The series is CE marked and, with the optional laser, complies with FDA 21 CFR 1040.10 as a Class II laser product and European Class 2 per EN60825-1/11.2001; maximum laser optical power is less than 1 mW @ 25°C (77°F).
Configuration Options
Model identity follows OS100E - output - display - temperature. Two base platforms set the display capability:
- OS101E transmitters provide the measurement and outputs without a local display.
- OS102E transmitters add a 4-digit LED display that is switchable between °C and °F.
Output options
The output suffix selects the electrical interface:
- OS101E-MV — 1 mV/°C or °F output.
- OS101E-V1 — 0 to 5 Vdc output.
- OS101E-V2 — 0 to 10 Vdc output.
- OS101E-MA — 4 to 20 mA output.
- OS101E-K — Type K thermocouple output.
High temperature heads
An HT suffix denotes the high temperature sensor head, which extends the head rating from 0 to 70°C (32 to 158°F) up to 0 to 85°C (32 to 185°F). HT versions include OS101E-MA-HT and OS101E-V2-HT. Where still higher head exposure is required, the OS100-WC water cooling jacket allows sensor-head operation up to 0 to 200°C (32 to 392°F).

Does OS102E-MA contain Mercury?

The manual refers to a serial bus interface and an installation of the software with a CD. Is an interface with a USB available ? Also is an alternative emthod of installing the associated software available ?

We do not currently offer the RS232 to USB adapter for this model.
