Supported Applications
The Omega OS-88000 and OS-98000 series consists of handheld infrared thermocouple probes designed for non-contact surface temperature measurement. These devices are engineered to measure moving or rotating surfaces, as well as stationary targets in ovens, furnaces, and hard-to-reach areas.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series provides high-accuracy performance with defined accuracy bands of 2% Accuracy Band and 5% Accuracy Band. Measurement capabilities span a wide envelope from -18 to 27°C (0 to 80°F) up to 170 to 250°C (340 to 480°F), depending on the selected range code.
Surface temperature limits are specified as Max 200°C (400°F) surface temperature and a separate limit of 160°C (325°F) max surface temperature. The probes utilize infrared technology for non-contact measurement, eliminating physical contact with the target surface during operation.
Temperature Ranges
The series supports the following specific range codes:
- -50F: -18 to 27°C (0 to 80°F)
- -80F: 10 to 49°C (50 to 120°F)
- -98.6F: 16 to 39°C (60 to 102°F)
- -140F: 25 to 80°C (80 to 180°F)
- -180F: 70 to 104°C (160 to 220°F)
- -240F: 95 to 130°C (200 to 270°F)
- -280F: 125 to 155°C (260 to 310°F)
- -340F: 145 to 175°C (290 to 350°F)
- -440F: 170 to 250°C (340 to 480°F)
Configuration Options
The OS-88000 and OS-98000 series is configurable across multiple parameters including probe geometry, thermocouple calibration type, and temperature range. The system includes a 1.5 m (5') PFA Shielded Cable with a GMP Low Noise Miniature Connector Standard; the mating female connector is included.
Probe Configurations
The series offers various physical configurations to accommodate different measurement environments:
- Standard handheld design for stationary surface measurements (e.g., OS-88001, OS-98001)
- Swivel head designs for flexible aiming
- Long reach probes and right-angle designs for hard-to-reach areas
Sensor Calibration Types
Models are available with Type J, K, T, or E thermocouple calibration. The specific calibration type must be specified in the model number.
Accessories and Adaptors
The following adaptors are sold separately to support system integration:
- TAS-K-3
- TAS-J-3
- TAS-T-3
Key Product Differences
The series is distinguished by model numbers that encode the probe style, calibration type, and range code. The naming convention follows the format OS-<MODEL>-<RANGE CODE>-<CALIBRATION TYPE>. For example, an ordering specification such as OS-88001-K-140F denotes a handheld infrared thermocouple for stationary surface measurements with Type K calibration and a 25 to 80°C (80 to 180°F) range.
Model families include the standard probe series, swivel head variants, long reach probes, and right-angle designs. Specific model numbers such as OS-88202, OS-98202, OS-88010, OS-98010, OS-88201, OS-98201, OS-88107, and others correspond to these distinct physical configurations.
