Replacement-Smart-Sensor

Replacement Smart Sensor.

  • Use the smart sensor part number as the ordering control because similar gases can have different ranges.
  • Toxic gas entries are listed in ppm, with ranges such as 0 to 1 ppm, 0 to 100 ppm, and 0 to 1000 ppm.
  • CO2 options use infrared detection and include 5000 ppm, 5% volume, 20% volume, and 100% volume spans.
  • Oxygen is specified as 0% to 25% by volume and is noted for oxygen depletion monitoring.
  • Check proper functionality after warm-up before returning the transmitter to service.
  • For general combustibles, specify the target gas because the table does not assign a single universal calibration gas.
  • Electrochemical/toxic sensor modules with a six-month warranty period.
  • Catalytic/combustible sensor modules with a one-year warranty period.
  • Use the sensor module warranty period for service planning, not the transmitter warranty alone.

Supported Applications

The ACI Replacement Smart Sensor Assembly is a factory-calibrated replacement module designed for the Q5/B5 and Q6/B6 series of gas detection transmitters. These smart sensor assemblies facilitate maintenance by allowing field technicians to replace boards easily, requiring only two screws to remove the previous module and install the new one. The series supports toxic, combustible, and infrared (IR) gas detection applications.

Documented gases include:

  • Toxic Gases: Ammonia, Arsine, Carbon Monoxide, Chlorine, Chlorine Dioxide, Diborane, Ethylene Oxide, Germane, Hydrogen Bromide, Hydrogen Cyanide, Nitric Oxide, Nitrogen Dioxide, Ozone, Phosphine, Silane, and Sulpher Dioxide.
  • Combustible Gases: Acetone, Benzene, Iso-Butane, Butanol (n-Butane), Ethylene, Hydrogen, Methane, Methanol, Propane, and a general combustible list including Acetaldehyde, Carbon Disulfide, Dioxane, Ethane, Ethanol, Gasoline, Heptane, Hexane, Ipa, Jet Fuel, Kerosene, Naptha, Styrene, Toluene, Voc's, Xylenes, Acetylene, Diesel, and Pentane.
  • Carbon Dioxide: Measured via infrared technology across multiple ranges.
  • Oxygen: Monitors oxygen depletion caused by numerous gases including Nitrous Oxide, Helium, Sulfer Hexafluoride, Argon, Xenon, and Neon.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series provides specific measurement ranges tailored to the gas type. Combustible gas sensors measure from 0 % to 100 % LEL (Lower Explosive Limit), where 100% LEL in % by vol is gas-specific. Toxic gases are available with spans ranging from 0 ppm to 1 ppm up to 0 ppm to 2000 ppm depending on the specific gas.

Carbon dioxide sensors utilizing infrared technology offer ranges of:

  • 0 ppm to 5000 ppm
  • 0 % to 5 % Volume
  • 0 % to 20 % Volume
  • 0 % to 100 % Volume

Oxygen sensors measure from 0 % to 25 % by Vol. All units should be checked for proper functionality and calibration once the replacement sensor module is reinstalled and has had a chance to warm up.

Configuration Options

The series offers factory-calibrated smart sensor modules identified by Gas Span Code, Item #, or Smart Sensor Part Number (85930-0xx-xxx). Selection depends on the specific gas and required span. The available configurations include:

  • Combustible Sensors: Configured for 100 % LEL with specific calibration factors listed per gas type.
  • Toxic Sensors: Available in various ppm ranges (e.g., Ammonia at 0 to 100 ppm or 0 to 1000 ppm; Hydrogen Sulphide at 0 to 25 ppm or 0 to 100 ppm).
  • Infrared Sensors: Dedicated modules for Carbon Dioxide detection.

The series is RoHS Compliant. Warranty coverage varies by sensor type: Electrochemical/Toxic sensors are covered for Six Months, while Catalytic/Combustible sensors carry a One Year warranty from the date of shipment (Q5/B5 Series Gas Transmitters generally have a Two-Year Limited Warranty).

Key Product Differences

Variants within this series differ primarily by gas type and measurement span. Part numbers follow the 85930-xxx format, with specific suffixes indicating the target analyte (e.g., -HYDROGEN, -ETHANOL, -GASOLINE). The Sensor Selection and Specification table lists distinct Item #s for each configuration.

Key distinctions include:

  • Sensor Technology: Differentiation between catalytic bead sensors (combustibles), electrochemical cells (toxic gases), and infrared optics (Carbon Dioxide).
  • Span Codes: Unique codes such as CH3CO-100L for Acetone or CO2-5V for Carbon Dioxide define the specific calibration range.
