Supported Applications

The Omega FMG470 Series is a flanged electromagnetic flowmeter designed for municipal and industrial water, waste, and reclaimed water applications. The series supports deployment in pump stations and packaged plant applications where conductive fluids require precise measurement.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The meter operates within a process temperature range of 10° to 140° F (-12° to 60° C) with storage capability from -40° to 158° F (-40° to 70° C). It is rated for 150 psi (10.3 bar) line pressure and features an enclosure rating of NEMA 6P, IP68 (10ft (3m) depth, continuously).

Performance specifications include a measurement range from 0.5% of maximum flow rate to 10 m/sec with accuracy defined as ±0.75% of reading (±1.0% FMG470), and ±0.025% of full-scale flow from low flow cutoff to maximum flow rate. The meter requires a minimum fluid conductivity of >20 microSiemens/cm.

Configuration Options

The series offers configurable power options including DC Power: 9-36 Vdc @ 250 mA max, 30 mA average and AC Power: 85-264Vac, 50/60Hz, 0.12A. Battery backup is available as a replaceable lithium 7.2V 'D' size battery pack for DC powered units or a 9V alkaline battery for AC powered units (not for use as primary power).

Output Signals & Communication

  • Pulse Output: Standard scaled pulse output, isolated, current sinking, 36 Vdc at 10 mA max. User-scalable from 0.1 to 99,999.9 volume units/pulse.
  • 4-20mA Current Loop: Isolated, passive, 24Vdc, 650 Ω maximum current loop (standard or optional depending on configuration).
  • High Speed Digital: Isolated, open collector, 24 Vdc.
  • Serial Communications: Isolated, asynchronous serial RS485, Modbus® RTU protocol. Required if forward and reverse flow data needs to be sent to another device.

Cabling & Options

  • Power/Output Cable: 20ft (6m) standard length polyurethane jacketed cable; lengths up to 200' available.
  • Remote Display Cable: 20ft (6m) standard length polyurethane jacketed cable for connection between meter and remote display; lengths up to 200' available.
  • Data Logging: Built-in data logging is available as an option.

For example, the 2" model has an overall length of 7.9 inch (200 mm) and a shipping weight of 25 lbs (11.3 kg), while the 12" model measures 19.68 inch (500 mm) in length with a shipping weight of 170 lbs (77 kg). The electronics housing is constructed from powder-coated diecast aluminum.

Model variations include configurations for battery or DC power, AC power, and specific output combinations such as pulse only or pulse plus analog/digital outputs. Regulatory certifications include CE certified (EN 61326) and Certified to NSF/ANSI standard 61 at 60°C (140°F).

Where can I find a link to the manual? I would like a digitized copy to see if the display and abilities meet my requirements. What is a grounding ring for and why does the unit need to be grounded to the fluid other than through its housing?

The manual is provided on the same Product Web Page under the Manual Tab. Since it is a magnetic flow meter, the ground ring is used to re-direct all noise from external pumps, electrical, or the environment so it will not interfere with the flow measruement.
