Supported Applications
The Pura Hazardous Area Transmitter is a 2-wire dew-point instrument designed for safe operation in hazardous environments. It belongs to the Pura Hygrometer Solutions family of ultra-pure moisture transmitters used for moisture breakthrough indication in ultra-dry moisture purification applications, and it can be deployed as a transmitter for a wide variety of pure gas measurement applications.
Typical applications include pure gases, semiconductor manufacture, fibre optic production, optical coating processes, electronic component manufacture, and speciality gas production and distribution. Because the transmitter is intrinsically safe, it is intended for installation in classified areas where a standard transmitter could not be used. A service exchange program is available, reducing the cost of maintenance.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The measurement range is -120...-40 °Cdp, with non-standard ranges available on request. Accuracy is ±1 °C from -40 to -60 °Cdp, ±2 °C from -60 to -100 °Cdp, and ±4 °C from -100 to -120 °Cdp (extrapolated). Each unit ships with a traceable 7-point calibration certificate, and the recommended calibration interval is 12 months unless used in a mission-critical application or a dirty or contaminated environment.
As a 2-wire device, the transmitter delivers a 4...20 mA output (current source) on a supply voltage of 12...28 V DC, into a load resistance of Max 250 Ω @ 14 V, drawing 23 mA max depending on output signal.

Wetted parts use cold-drawn stainless steel with a 0.1...0.2 Ra μm electro-polished internal sample block finish, and the housing is 316 stainless steel. Hazardous-area suitability is supported by CE marking together with the Baseefa Approved System Drawing, FM Approved System Drawing and CSA Approved System Drawing.
Configuration Options
Within the Pura Hazardous Area Transmitter 2-wire line, the configured builds differ by sensor Version and by Range. The Version determines the sample-block packaging and the process connection:
- PRM (Pura Premium) — 2 x 1/4" male VCR process connections; weighs 450 g
- OEM — 2 x 1/4" male VCR process connections; weighs 450 g
- SEN (Pura Sensor) — 1/2" male VCR process connection; weighs 180 g
All configured units share the same -120...-40 °Cdp range and the same 2-wire, 4...20 mA electrical output, so the practical differences between them are packaging, process interface and weight rather than measurement performance.
