Supported Applications
The Omega OM-70 Series comprises portable data loggers with display, part of the NOMAD® Family. These compact devices are designed for logging temperature, relative humidity, and thermocouple data in applications such as coolers, freezers, greenhouses, museums, laboratories, shipping containers, warehouses, environmental monitoring, and food storage.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series supports multiple measurement types with model-specific ranges. The OM-71 and OM-73 measure ambient temperature from -20 to 70°C (-4 to 160°F). The OM-72 measures external sensor temperatures from -40 to 70°C (-40 to 160°F), while the OM-74 operates between -18 to 55°C (0 to 131°F) and displays temperatures up to 199.9°C or °F.
Accuracy varies by model and sensor type:
- OM-71, OM-72, OM-73 Temperature: ±0.5°C (±1°F) from -17 to 50°C (1 to 122°F).
- OM-73 Humidity: ±2% RH from 10 to 90% RH @ 25°C (77°F), with a measurement range of 0 to 99% RH non-condensing.
- OM-74 Thermocouple Accuracy: Ranges from ±0.4°C (0.8°F) for E-type to ±3.3°C (6.0°F) for B-type, depending on the thermocouple grade used.
The OM-71, OM-72, and OM-73 feature a resolution of 0.1°C (0.05°F), while the OM-74 offers 0.1°C (0.2°F) for display temperatures up to 199.9°C or °F and logged data.
Configuration Options
The series includes four primary models, each configured for specific sensing needs:
- OM-71: Temperature data logger with display; powered by a 3V CR2032 lithium battery.
- OM-72: Temperature data logger with display and remote temperature sensor; powered by a 3V CR2032 lithium battery.
- OM-73: Temperature/humidity data logger with display; measures relative humidity from 0 to 99% RH non-condensing. Powered by a 3V CR2032 lithium battery.
- OM-74: Thermocouple data logger with display supporting K, J, E, N, T, S, R, B, and C types. Includes a free 1 m (40") Type K insulated beaded wire thermocouple with subminiature connector and wire spool caddy. Powered by three AAA batteries.
All models feature an LCD real-time display showing time, date, alarm status, and battery condition. Data transfer is handled via a USB 2.0 Interface for fast data retrieval to PC software that supports graphing, zooming, autoscaling, and export to text or Excel formats.
Key Product Differences
The OM-71, OM-72, and OM-73 share identical physical dimensions of 6 H x 5.7 W x 1.3 cm D (2.36 x 2.24 x 0.51") and weigh 91 g (3.2 oz). The OM-74 is larger at 7.4 H x 5.5 W x 3.0 cm D (2.25 x 2.15 x 1.2") but lighter at 62 g (2.2 oz).
Storage temperature limits differ by model: -40 to 77°C (-40 to 170°F) for OM-71, OM-72, and OM-73; -30 to 80°C (-20 to 175°F) for OM-74. NIST calibration certificates are available as options (e.g., OM-74-NIST, OM-71-NIST). The series carries CE Mark certification.

Solid Logger (for the most part)
I have bought roughly 10 of these over the past 8 years. We use them for monitoring the temperature and humidity of a control room for Concrete testing. For the most part these are solid units. I have had a couple that had the screens go out on them after 5 years or so and the plastic gets discolored when exposed to sunlight. One had the temperature go out and it only lets you calibrate it slightly from the original settings. That said these generally work great with those few exceptions. The program for the PC is easy to use and understand. I will continue to purchase these as needed.

works great.
easy to use.
had to guess where to get software to download data to but figured it out eventually.
USB connection works easily, but I would now pay a little mre for a wireless download option

Good for general monitoring
We really like the OM-70 series for monitoring temperature and humidity during our testing. They work well and the software is easy to use.
The only issue we have is that they will not stay in calibration in the lower 10 degrees C of the published range and there is no adjustment to correct this. We calibrate them to 10 C above the published low range and they work well there.

Good value for a stand alone data logger
I have bought these many times over the years and appreciate the updates to the user interface. The data loggers are very robust and accurate. I would give this a 5 star review if there was a version of the software that would also calculate Heat Index as part of the standard data output. Very useful for safety studies.

NOT A PRODUCT YOU WANT TO PURCHASE!!!!
OMEGA will not support this product. You have to send over $65.00 for the software to operate the product. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS PRODUCT!!!

Is OM 73 model compatible with Windows 11? If not, is there a recommended model that is?
Hello, thank you for your question. Unfortunately it is not compatible at this moment. You could use the OM-CP-RFRHTEMP2000A instead.

Does the equipment come with a calibration certificate?
Hello, thank you for your question. OM-71 does not include a calibration cert, if a certification is needed then you should order OM-71-NIST instead. This part number includes the same logger plus a NIST traceable calibration.

The data sheet says that the data loggers are compatible with windows 7 and 8 but does not mention Windows 10. Would it work with Windows 10?
Thank you for your question. The software is compatible with Windows 10.

Is the OM-72 approved through the VFC program for vaccine monitoring in refrigerators and freezers.
Hello
I am sorry it is not.

Using the interface software, is there any way I can live export data when new points come in, or do I have to manually export every time I want the data?
Thank you for your question. Once the logger has started you can auto-load date to software and then you would have to manually Export to Excel. It will not import real-time into Excel.

Is the OM-70 software compatible with Windows 11?
Hello, thank you for your question. A software hasn't been formally released for Windows 11 and unfortunately, we don't expect any more updates for it because loggers on that series are EOL. If would like to consider other alternatives, please give us a call and we will gladly help you find the better option.

Is there a list of serial commands for this instruments? I am looking to communicate with the instrument over serial interface from a python environment.
Thank you for your question. There are no serial commands available just the provided software.

I have 3 OM-73. One of them consistently reads a battery level 0.25V below the other two (confirmed by switching and reading multiple batteries). It is always in a low battery state because of this. Can it be repaired?
Thank you for your question. We will require more information to help on this question, please email the DAS team at DAS@OMEGA.COM
