Supported Applications
The Rotronic HygroGen2 series (models HG2-S and HG2-XL) functions as a portable humidity generator designed for laboratory and on-site calibration of relative humidity and temperature measuring equipment. The system generates stable conditions to support the simultaneous calibration of multiple probes, with configurations available for up to 6 probe mounts in the HG2-S model and up to 19 probe mounts plus internal shelf racks in the HG2-XL model.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series generates relative humidity conditions from 5% to 95% RH with a stability of <±0.1 %rh, and temperature control from 0°C to 60°C (standard) or -5°C to 60°C with the Temperature Extension option. Humidity range extension options are available for 2% to 99% RH. The system achieves humidity equilibrium in approximately 5 minutes for the HG2-S model and ~15 minutes for the HG2-XL model, while temperature changes stabilize within similar timeframes under standard conditions.
Performance specifications include a typical calibration uncertainty of ±1.5 %rh (k=2) at 23°C and ±0.15 °C (k=2) across the 15...50 °C range. Thermal gradients are maintained below <±0.05 °C within the chamber. The device operates in ambient temperatures from 10 to 35 °C at altitudes up to <2000 m.
Configuration Options
The HygroGen2 series offers two primary chassis sizes with distinct working volumes and probe capacities:
- HG2-S: 45 x 41 x 21 cm dimensions, ~13 kg weight, 2 litre chamber volume (1.5 litres working volume).
- HG2-XL: 80 x 62 x 41 cm dimensions, ~37 kg weight, 20 litre chamber volume (15 litres working volume).
The generation method utilizes mixed flow with a desiccant drier cell and piezoelectric humidifier, controlled by an embedded multiple PID controller. Power requirements are 110...240 VAC, 50/60 Hz (3 A at 240 VAC; 6A at 110 VAC). Connectivity includes seven front USB ports and two rear USB ports for data logging or external control.
Optional features available via license codes include:
- AutoCal: Automatic calibration function (HG2-AutoCal-Code).
- External Reference Integration: Chilled mirror integration capability (HG2-ExtRef-Code), requiring AutoCal or RemoteAPI.
- Range Extensions: Temperature Extension (-5...60 °C) and Humidity Extension (2...99 %rh).
- Remote Control: Remote Screen Sharing (HG2-Screenshare-Code) and Remote API for third-party software integration via TCP/IP.
The system includes integrated Rotronic HW4 or embedded HW5-P software, which is FDA 21 CFR part 11 compliant. Standard supply packages include a calibrated control/reference probe (HygroClip2 capacitive RH sensor and Pt100 temperature sensor), desiccant cells, water fill syringe, and USB memory stick with test data.
Key Product Differences
The primary distinction between the HG2-S and HG2-XL models is chamber volume and probe capacity. The HG2-S requires a separate order for the chamber door (e.g., 6 x 30 mm ports with bungs or clear acrylic doors), whereas the HG2-XL includes an integrated door in standard supply.
Chamber door configurations vary by application needs, including:
- HG2-D-888888: Door with 6 x 30 mm ports and bungs for the HG2-S; requires specific B8 sleeves for smaller probe diameters.
- HG2-DP-00000: Clear acrylic door without ports, intended for instruments with displays.
- Custom Doors: Available via dealer inquiry for port sizes exceeding 30 mm or specific mapping rig requirements (HG2-D-888888-Map).
The HG2-XL model includes two pre-installed desiccant cells compared to one in the HG2-S. Both models utilize powder-coated aluminium and steel enclosures with an IP20 rating.
