Supported Applications

The Omega PLM-Series consists of polyimide flexible heaters designed for applications requiring conformability to rounded surfaces. The series is engineered with chemically resistant polyimide insulation and a non-magnetic heating element, allowing installation on curved geometries where rigid heating solutions are unsuitable.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The PLM-Series operates within distinct temperature envelopes depending on the adhesive configuration. Models without adhesive options support an operating range of -57 to 232°C (-71 to 450°F). Self-adhesive models are rated for a lower maximum, with an operating range of -40 to 149°C (-40 to 300°F).

Performance specifications include watt densities available at 2.5 W/in², 5 W/in², or 10 W/in². The heaters feature a minimum bending radius of 0.032" and maintain a maximum thickness of .01", with strain relief reaching up to .08" (or .10" for heaters ≥ 3 Amp). Electrical integrity is supported by a dielectric strength rating of 1250 VAC.

Configuration Options

The series offers configurable dimensions, power densities, and voltage ratings to accommodate specific installation needs. Key variant parameters include:

  • Voltage Ratings: Standard models support a maximum of 115 V or 230 V (PLM-*), while low-voltage variants are rated for 28 V max (PLMLV-*) and round versions up to 115 V max (PLMR-*).
  • Sizes: Rectangular models offer widths ranging from 0.5" to 4" and lengths from 1" to 12", with square configurations also available.
  • Adhesive Options: Models are offered in self-adhesive or non-adhesive versions; the adhesive option is denoted by a "-P" suffix in model numbers (e.g., PLMLV-0504/10-P).
  • Lead Wires: Standard leads consist of PTFE insulated wire, 12" ±0.4" length, UL10109, 22 AWG. For heaters ≥ 3 Amp, the lead specification is UL1332, 16 AWG.

Key Product Differences

The PLM-Series distinguishes between standard voltage and low-voltage families through model prefixes: "PLM" indicates standard configurations (up to 115 V or 230 V), while "PLMLV" designates the low-voltage family limited to 28 V max. A separate round version, identified by the prefix "PLMR," is available for circular heating requirements up to 115 V max.

Model numbers follow a structure of Series Prefix-Width/Length/Power Density-Adhesive Option. For example, PLMLV-204/10-P describes a Low Voltage Polyimide Heater with 28 V Max, 2 in Width, 4 in Length, 10 W/in² power density, and self-adhesive backing. Conversely, PLM-1012/2 represents a standard voltage heater (115 V Max) with 10 in width, 12 in length, 2.5 W/in² density, and no adhesive.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Heaters These things stick on great to metallic and composite surfaces. We use them for spacecraft thermal control. I don't use any other patch heaters on the entire spacecraft.
