Supported Applications
The Dwyer Series P2 is a piston-type flow switch designed for air and pure water applications. These in-line switches operate reliably in any mounted attitude, with default calibration based on the vertical inlet port down position using water at +70°F.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The series supports measurement ranges of 0.05 to 1.0 GPM (0.19 to 3.79 LPM) for liquids and 25 CFH to 5 CFM (1.9 LPM to 141.6 LPM) for gases. Process temperature limits are specified as 0 to 212°F (-18 to 100°C). Pressure ratings are defined as 150 psig (10.3 bar) @ 70°F (21°C); 50 psig (3.4 bar) @ 212°F (100°C).
For liquid media containing particulate and/or debris, filtration to 50 Micron or better is required. The switch output is SPST, N.O., with electrical ratings of .17 A @ 120 VAC, .08 A @ 240 VAC, .13 A @ 120 VDC, and .06 A @ 240 VDC.
Configuration Options
The Series P2 is available with preset actuation points across specific model numbers. The series supports the following configurations:
- Liquid Models (Water): P2-11 (.05 GPM), P2-12 (.25 GPM), P2-13 (.50 GPM), and P2-14 (1.0 GPM).
- Gas Models (@ 5 psi): P2-15 (.42 CFM), P2-16 (1.0 CFM), P2-17 (2.5 CFM), and P2-18 (5.0 CFM).
- Housing Materials: PPE and PS (polyphenylene ether and polystyrene) for the housing; Noryl® is also referenced in documentation.
- Piston & Spring: Piston constructed of PPE, PS, and epoxy; spring and stop pin made of 316 SS or 316 Stainless Steel.
- Process Connection: 1/4" male NPT (mechanical port thread).
- Electrical Termination: No. 22 AWG, 18" L., PVC lead wires or 2-conductor cable options.
The series is noted as FDA Compliant and NSF-Compliant for wetted materials including the housing, barbs, piston, spring, and stop pin.
Key Product Differences
Variants within the Series P2 are distinguished by their media type (liquids vs. gases) and specific actuation set points. Models P2-11 through P2-14 are configured for liquids with flow rates ranging from .05 to 1.0 GPM. Models P2-15 through P2-18 are configured for gases at 5 psi, covering ranges from .42 CFM to 5.0 CFM.
Documentation indicates that set points shown are based on a vertical position (inlet port down). Variation in set point actuation will occur if the switch is installed in other mounting orientations. The device utilizes a plastic taper-threaded design; installation requires suitable thread sealant kept out of the unit, and over-tightening may result in port breakage.
