Supported Applications

The Omega FP7002 Series is a combination paddlewheel flow and temperature sensor with an integral signal conditioner/transmitter. It is designed for monitoring industrial water flows and temperature, suitable for hard-to-handle corrosive aqueous solutions to high purity fluids. The device measures both flow and temperature in one assembly and is intended for use with water and other low viscosity liquids only.

Applications are limited by media compatibility; the series supports non-flammable, non-hazardous liquids up to 5 centipoise (cps) viscosity. It features wide chemical compatibility but is not suitable for flammable or hazardous materials, nor in human medical or nuclear applications.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The FP7002 Series operates within a fluid temperature range of 0 to 100°C (32 to 212°F). Flow measurement ranges vary by installation fitting, spanning from 2 to 460 GPM. Accuracy is specified as ±2% FS for flow and ±1.7°C (3.1°F) for temperature, with a repeatability of ±1% FS.

Pressure ratings are dependent on the process connection material and fluid temperature. For all PVC tee fittings, do not exceed 150 psig @ 27°C (80°F), 100 psig @ 38°C (100°F), 60 psig @ 49°C (120°F) or 30 psig @ 60°C (140°F). The maximum pressure decreases 1.1 psig per each 0.56°C (1°F) above 27°C (80°F), reaching a max temperature of 93°C (200°F) at 18 psig maximum.

The transmitter requires a power supply of 12 to 18 Vdc @ 50 mA maximum for flow and 12 to 18 Vdc @ 30 mA for temperature. The unit is housed in a rugged NEMA-4 (IP65) aluminum enclosure.

Configuration Options

The series offers configurable process connections, output signals, and wetted materials tailored to specific piping requirements.

  • Process Connections: Available with Schedule 40 PVC tee fittings (includes PVC locking nut) or galvanized iron tee fittings (includes brass locking nut). Required installation fittings range from FP7007 (¾" NPT, 2 to 30 GPM) to FP7030 (3" NPT, 25 to 460 GPM).
  • Output Signals: Field-selectable outputs include 3-wire or 2-wire 4 to 20 mA loop output. A 1 to 5 Vdc signal is available with an external 250 Ω resistor.
  • Wetted Materials: The sensor body is Polypropylene, the O-Ring is FKM (Viton), and the paddle is PVDF. Locking nuts are PVC for FP7002 models or Brass for FP7002A models.
  • Accessories: Options include the PSS-12 12V single-output power supply and TX4-100, a 30 meter (100') 4-conductor shielded cable.

Key Product Differences

The FP7002 Series distinguishes between two primary sensor/transmitter configurations based on the process connection material:

  • FP7002: Designed for PVC fittings. Includes a PVC locking nut and weighs 0.3 kg (0.75 lb).
  • FP7002A: Designed for galvanized iron fittings. Includes a brass locking nut and weighs 0.4 kg (1 lb).

The transmitter and fitting must be ordered as a system, such as SYS/FP7002/FP7007 or SYS/FP7002A/FP7007-GI. Each system comes factory calibrated with an operator's manual.

How do I convert to 1-5 VDC output? I do not see anything in the manual

Asked by: JABM
Thank you for your inquiry about the paddle wheel sensor. You will need to install a 250 Ohm resistor to convert to a 1 to 5 Voltage output.
