Supported Applications

The Omega TMS and TMI series are flanged immersion heaters designed for process water heating applications. The TMS Series is specified for very weak solutions or industrial process water, utilizing stainless steel sheath elements (8% nickel) to ensure long life in these media. The TMI Series addresses more demanding conditions, specifically suitable for weak corrosive solutions or severe hard water.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series covers a power range from 6 kW to 72 kW with voltage options of 240 V and 480 V in both single-phase (1) and three-phase (3P) configurations. The TMI Series features rugged Incoloy® sheath elements with a diameter of 0.475" (1.2 cm). Both series utilize zinc-coated steel flanges, available in sizes from 3 to 6 inches (7.6 to 15.2 cm).

Model selection is driven by the required kW rating and enclosure type. For example, units rated at 48, 60, and 72 kW with 240 Vac power feature a specific dimension of 1¼" N.

Approvals

  • General Purpose & Moisture Resistant Enclosures: UL Listed and CSA Certified.
  • Explosion Resistant Enclosures: CSA NRTL/C Certified. These units are not intended for use in hazardous areas.

Configuration Options

The series offers four distinct enclosure types to match environmental requirements, designated by suffix codes E-1 through E-4:

  • E-1: General Purpose Enclosure
  • E-2: Moisture/Explosion Resistant Enclosure
  • E-3: Explosion Resistant Enclosure
  • E-4: Moisture Resistant Enclosure

Model numbers follow a structured format: TMS/TMI-[kW]-[Flange Size]-[Voltage]-[Enclosure Type]-[Phase]. For three-phase power, the suffix "/3P" is added to the model number. Voltage must be designated explicitly (e.g., "240" for 240 Vac or "480" for 480 V).

Key Product Differences

The primary distinction between series lies in sheath material and media compatibility:

  • TMS Series: Features stainless steel (8% nickel) sheaths. Model numbers do not include the "H" suffix found on TMI models.
  • TMI Series: Features Incoloy® sheaths for corrosive or severe hard water applications. Model numbers typically include an "H" designation following the kW and flange size (e.g., TMI-3065H, TMI-1248HE4).

Larger flange sizes and higher kW ratings beyond the standard catalog are available; specific details require contacting OMEGALUX.
