Supported Applications

The Omega TH-22 series comprises thermistor immersion probes designed for high-temperature applications up to 200°C (392°F). These probes utilize 55,000 Series glass encapsulated thermistor elements to provide excellent stability and accuracy. The integral M12 connector design features an LCP insert with nickel-plated copper pins specifically engineered for elevated temperature service.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The TH-22 series operates within a process temperature range of -80 to 200°C (-112 to 392°F) continuous, with intermittent capability up to 250°C (482°F). The measurement range is specified as -50 to 200°C (-58 to 392°F), offering an accuracy of ±0.2°C from 0 to 70°C (32 to 158°F).

Response time in water flowing at 0.91 m/s is approximately 7 seconds for 50% response, 8 seconds for 63.2%, and 14 seconds for 90%. The probes feature an IP67 enclosure rating when the mating connector is installed.

Configuration Options

The series supports multiple thermistor resistances at 25°C (77°F), including 2,252 Ω, 3K Ω, 5K Ω, and 10K Ω. Steinhart-Hart constants for each resistance value are provided to determine resistance at specific temperatures.

Configuration options include:

  • Diameters: Standard offerings include ¼" (6 mm) probes; ½" probe diameters are available by modifying the model number suffix from "-1/4" to "-1/8".
  • Lengths: The standard overall length is 6" (150 mm), but custom lengths can be ordered. A minimum immersion depth of 1.5" is recommended to avoid stem conduction errors.
  • Dual Element Versions: Available by adding "-DUAL" to the model number, though not offered in ¼" or 3 mm diameter probes.
  • Process Connections: Options include 1/2-14 NPT, 3/8-18 NPT, 1/4-18 NPT, M8x1 Thread, M10x1 Thread, G1/2 BSPP, and G1/4 BSPP.
  • Accessories: Optional extension cables (M12CM-T24SSPC-SF-2, M12CM-T24SSPC-RF-2) are sold separately.

The wetted materials consist of a 316L stainless steel sheath and housing. Approvals include RoHS compliance, with NIST certification available as an option.

Key Product Differences

Model numbers follow the format TH-22X-<RESISTANCE>-<DIAMETER>-<LENGTH>-M12. The letter suffix (A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H) denotes specific mounting configurations:

  • TH-22A: Straight sheath without integral process connection.
  • TH-22B through TH-22D: Straight sheaths with ½ NPT, ⅜ NPT, and ¼ NPT mounting threads respectively.
  • TH-22E through TH-22H: Metric straight sheath versions featuring M8x1, M10x1, G½ BSPP, and G¼ BSPP mounting threads.

To specify a custom length other than 6", the "-0600" segment in the model number is replaced with the required length code (e.g., 9" = 0900, 4½" = 0450).

Hi, I'm wondering how to determine the length of the probe and what needs to be considered in terms of deciding it? How to include the resistance of the probe (lead) into temperature calculation? Thanks!

Asked by: Gang Ren
Hi Gang Ren, Thank you for the inquiry. In general 3 inches is minimum immersion length. This can vary depending on the media and the process flow. Fast moving liquids or gas allow for shorter lengths. Lead wire length can be ignored most often because lead length resistance is usually less then 5 Ohms, and thermistor resistance is in the range of 2000 to 10,000 Ohms.
