Supported Applications

The Omega TCS series comprises sanitary thermocouple assemblies designed for Clean-In-Place (CIP) systems and other sanitary processes. These sensors feature a standard 1½" 16 AMP Tri-Grip™ fitting, which is compatible with Tri-Clamp® style piping connections.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The series operates within a process temperature range of -50 to 200°C (-58 to 392°F). Accuracy conforms to Special Limits of Error specifications. The sensors are self-powered, generating a millivolt signal proportional to the measured temperature without requiring external power.

Configuration Options

The TCS series is available in two distinct duty configurations: Standard Duty (TCS-S-NB9W Series) and Heavy-Duty (TCS-H-NB9W Series). Both variants utilize 316L Stainless Steel for wetted surfaces, with a surface finish of 32 microinch or better. The protection head is constructed from white polypropylene.

Probe Dimensions

  • Standard Duty: Sheath diameter of ¼".
  • Heavy-Duty: Sheath diameter of ⅜", featuring a stepped design with a ⅜" diameter at the probe tip for fast response and additional strength.

Thermocouple Types & Wiring

The series supports Type J, K, T, and E thermocouples. The wiring configuration is as follows:

  • Type T: Copper (Blue) positive / Constantan (Red) negative.
  • Type K: Chromel (Yellow) positive / Alumel (Red) negative.
  • Type J: Iron (White) positive / Constantan (Red) negative.
  • Type E: Chromel (Purple) positive / Constantan (Red) negative.

Connections & Options

The standard electrical connection is a ¾" NPT conduit fitting within the NB9W protection head. Connection heads are provided with nickel-plated brass terminal blocks. Additional options include:

  • Fitting Styles and Flange Sizes: Available via Omega.
  • Protection Heads: The NB15 large stainless steel screw top head is available by changing the model suffix from "NB9W" to "NB15" for an additional cost.
  • Probe Lengths: Standard lengths include 3", 4", 5", and 6". For lengths longer than 6", custom sizing (e.g., 9¼" or 12") is available at an additional cost per inch.

The primary distinction between the two series lies in probe robustness and diameter. The Standard Duty models utilize a ¼" sheath, while Heavy-Duty models employ a larger ⅜" stepped design to provide additional strength alongside fast response characteristics.
