Supported Applications

The Dwyer Series WE34 is a full port, 3-way flanged stainless steel ball valve designed for gas or liquid flow control. The series supports quick bubble-tight shut-off and mixing or diverting of compatible liquids and gases. Its direct-mounted actuator configuration creates a compact assembly suitable for tight spaces.

Operating Conditions & Performance

The Series WE34 operates within specific temperature and pressure envelopes depending on the selected size and material limits:

• Process Temperature: -20 to 392°F (-29 to 200°C).
• Ambient Operating Temperature (Electric): -22 to 140°F (-30 to 60°C) for standard electric actuators; -40 to 176°F (-40 to 80°C) for pneumatic and explosion-proof variants.
• Pressure Rating: 20" Hg to 1000 psi (-0.7 to 69 bar) up to 250°F (per datasheet table); the manual notes a range of 20" Hg to 275 psi (0.7 to 19 bar).
• Media Compatibility: Compatible liquids and gases.

Pneumatic actuators require clean, lubricated air supply. Double-acting pneumatic models operate at a normal supply pressure of 40 to 115 psi (2.7 to 7.9 bar), while spring return models typically operate at 80 psi (5.5 bar). Maximum supply pressure is rated at 120 psi (8.6 bar).

Valve and Actuator Performance

The valve features a blowout-proof stem, reinforced PTFE seats and seals for longer life, and a 316 SS (ASTM CF8M) ball. Electric actuators include thermal overload protection and permanently lubricated gear trains.

• Electric Cycle Time: TD01: 4 s; MD01: 10 s; TD02/MD02: 20 s; TD03/MD03: 30 s (per 90°).
• Duty Rating: 85% for electric actuators.

The Series WE34 is configurable across multiple dimensions including valve size, actuator type, control mode, and environmental protection ratings. The series supports the following configurations documented in the source specifications:

Actuator Types and Control Modes

The series can be configured with either electric or pneumatic actuators. Pneumatic options include double-acting (DA) and spring return (SR, rack and pinion). Electric options are available in two-position (TD/TI) or modulating control (MD/MI).

• Pneumatic: Double acting models range from ACT-DA01 to ACT-DA09; Spring Return models range from ACT-SR02 to ACT-SR10. Normal operation for spring return is FAIL CLOSED, configurable to FAIL OPEN by rotating racks 180°.
• Electric Two-Position: Uses supply voltage to drive the valve open or closed (TD series).
• Electric Modulating: Accepts a 4 to 20 mA input for precise valve positioning (MD/MI series).

Housing and Environmental Ratings

• NEMA 4X (IP67): Weatherproof electric actuators.
• NEMA 7: Explosion-proof electric actuators designed for hazardous locations: Class I, Group C & D; Class II, Group E, F & G; Division I & II.
• Housing Material: Powder coated aluminum (electric); Anodized aluminum body with epoxy coated end caps (pneumatic).

Power and Signal Options

• Voltage Supply: 110 VAC, 220 VAC, 24 VAC, or 24 VDC. Note: MD models are not available in 24 VDC.
• Electrical Connection: 1/2" female NPT.

Wetted Materials and Construction

The valve body is a 3-piece design with tri-clamp ends (per datasheet table) or 150# ANSI flange connections. Wetted materials include:

• Two-Position vs. Modulating: Two-position electric models drive the valve to open or closed states using supply voltage. Modulating electric models accept a 4 to 20 mA signal for proportional positioning.
• Hazardous Location Ratings: Standard electric actuators carry NEMA 4X (IP67) ratings, while explosion-proof variants meet NEMA 7 and specific Class/Group hazardous location requirements.
• Pneumatic Return Logic: Spring return pneumatic models default to FAIL CLOSED; orientation can be reversed for FAIL OPEN operation by rotating the racks 180°.
