Product Overview
- Series ID Series-WE03
Supported Applications
The Dwyer Series WE03 is a 3-piece tri-clamp stainless steel ball valve designed for sanitary applications involving compatible liquids and gases. The series features a full port design intended to provide great flow rates with minimal pressure drop. Documented suitability includes food, dairy, beverage, and drinking water processes.
Operating Conditions & Performance
The Series WE03 operates within specific temperature and pressure envelopes defined by the valve body and actuator type:
- Pressure Rating: 28" Hg to 1000 psi (-0.7 to 69 bar) up to 250°F.
- Process Temperature: -20 to 392°F (-29 to 200°C).
- Ambient Operating Temperature (Electric Actuators): -22 to 140°F (-30 to 60°C) for NEMA 4X models; -40 to 140°F (-40 to 60°C) for explosion-proof electric actuators.
- Ambient Operating Temperature (Pneumatic Actuators): -40 to 176°F (-40 to 80°C).
- Cv Values: Range from 14.39 gal/min for the 1/2" size up to 1950.87 gal/min for the 4" size.
Pneumatic actuators require a normal supply pressure of 40 to 115 psi (2.7 to 7.9 bar) for double-acting models and 80 psi (5.5 bar) for spring-return models, with a maximum supply pressure of 120 psi (8.6 bar).
Wetted Materials
- Body and Ball: 316 SS (CF8M)
- Stem: 316 SS
- Seat: RTFE/PTFE
- Seal, Washer, and Packing: PTFE
Configuration Options
The Series WE03 is configurable with hand operation or various actuator types to meet specific control requirements. Actuators are direct mounted for compact assembly in tight spaces.
Actuator Types and Control Modes
- Pneumatic: Available as double-acting (DA series) using air supply on both ports, or spring-return (SR series) where springs return the valve to a closed position upon loss of air. The normal operation for spring-return is FAIL CLOSED; orientation can be changed to FAIL OPEN by rotating racks 180°.
- Electric Two-Position: Uses supply voltage to drive the valve open or closed (TD and TI series).
- Electric Modulating: Accepts a 4 to 20 mA input for precise valve positioning (MD and MI series).
Housing Ratings and Approvals
- NEMA 4X (IP67): Weatherproof electric actuators with powder-coated aluminum housing.
- NEMA 7: Explosion-proof electric actuators designed for hazardous locations: Class I, Group C & D; Class II, Group E, F & G; Division I & II. Housing is constructed of anodized and epoxy coated aluminum or powder-coated aluminum depending on the model.
- Pneumatic Housings: Anodized aluminum body with epoxy-coated end caps.
Sizes and Connections
The series supports line sizes from 1/2" to 4", featuring tri-clamp ends. Model numbers follow the format WE03--- (e.g., WE03-C-HD00 for hand-operated, WE03-DDA01 for double-acting pneumatic).
Key Product Differences
Variants within the Series WE03 differ primarily by actuator technology and enclosure rating:
- T-series (TD/TI): Two-position electric actuators. TD models are NEMA 4X; TI models are explosion-proof.
- M-series (MD/MI): Modulating electric actuators accepting 4 to 20 mA input. MD models are NEMA 4X; MI models are explosion-proof.
- Pneumatic DA vs. SR: Double-acting pneumatic models require air for both opening and closing, while spring-return models utilize internal springs for the return stroke.
Optional accessories include manual overrides, position indicators, limit switches (including explosion-proof types), optional brakes, heaters with thermostats, reversing relays (supplied by customer), SN solenoid valves, and smart positioners such as the 265ER-D5 or 285ER-D5.
